Here is the Mexican newspaper article about the conviction and 23 year sentence he got for beating a 59 year old woman to death in Playa Azul, Mexico on April 28, 2009.

Here is the Google translation of that article in the Mexican newspaper.

He'll never survive 23 years in the Mexipen, unless he becomes a punk.

He has already been arrested and convicted for an assault on another prisoner, in October, so - no - I doubt if he will even survive 5-10 years. Zachery obviously does not play well with others.

I'm not sure how you are using the term 'punk', but, after learning of his life so far, I think he has been a punk for most of his life. How else to explain beating a 60 year old woman to death, and throwing her body down a well, only to move into her house and be arrested with all her ID, in her car. Punk or not, definitely not very bright.

Mr. Saunders I am very sorry for the loss of you loved one. I see your post often and it is very distressing to know that someone can be so cruel and callous. I hope Mr. Garner lives a long full life, behind bars. Death is too good for him.

Thank you Douglas for keeping Dyersburg/Dyer County up-to-date on this horrific crime. Part of me would like to see this piece of scum get the same treatment that he gave to your friend and the other part would like to see him spend 22 years and 364 days in the hands of the guys that he is in prison with and ultimately meeting his maker on that 365th day.

Keep us posted!

Thanks. I try to post everything on that Facebook group site, but the family of Zachery Lynn Garner's attitude about what their relative has done makes me want to keep posting here, just so they can't put anything across on local folks. he is a coward and a punk. it would have been nice for him to have received the maximum sentence of 32 years, and I can't even imagine how awful even 23 years will be, but, realistically, he is likely to be killed at some point in prison, or commit suicide. The suicide rate for Mexican prisoners is very high - higher still for non-Mexican nationals.

an eye for an eye. In the Bibical days there were "Cities of Refuge, where if you killed someone accdently, you could run there and be safe.If you killed someone by choice you could not get into these cities and the relatives of the victim would kill the murderer. I am so sorry for the families of the little lady that was so brutally murdered.A 23 year sentence doesn't sound long enough but like someone said in another post,he probably wont live very long in the Mexican prison.I don't know this murderer nor any of his family.it makes me wonder what kind of envirment was he raised in.I do feel for his relatives tho. They will propably never see him alive again, but the murder victims family will never see her alive again. There is a judgement day.Again Mr.Saunders,I am so very sorry for what that monster did to your family.

I understand that argument, and in this case, I could almost subscribe to it, but generally, I am not a big proponent of the death penalty. Mexico doesn't have a death penalty anyway, so it's a moot point, but they could have gotten 32 years, which I would have preferred.

If you go to that website, you can read all about how Zachery and Robin were raised.

The decision date for the appeal of the conviction of Zachery Lynn Garner and Robin Olene Likens (nee Richardson) for murdering Holly Jane Grunewald, and their 23 year sentences has been delayed again, though I am not sure to exactly when.

Are you seriously still on here posting stuff and going on and on and on about this even after the first thread you posted got deleted by the state gazette for being inappropriate and somewhat derranged im sure? You said it yourself....how come theres no media coverage at all? Because still to this day DPD and the media here in Dyersburg has bigger and better fish to fry and things to do than worry about a "convicted" murderer thats already in prison. Start your grieving process man, let it go already. Your the only one on here dragging it out still. Im sorry for your loss but its over let it go.

The reason this thread keeps getting deleted is because I believe family members are paying the $20 charge to get it deleted, and for no other reason.

If you actually read any of the threads, there are lots of Dyersburg residents who are very interested in this case, and are glad I keep reminding the community that Zachery Lynn Garner and his girlfriend Robin Olene Likens beat to death a 60 year old woman, stripped her, and threw her body down a well.

The Garner family continues to gloss over this fact, and I will continue to remind the community of what the truth is for 23 years, if necessary, so that neither the family, nor Zachery Lynn Garner when he returns from 23 years in a Mexican prison, can lie about what happened.

If you don't like it - tough. Don't read it.

I think most people would want to know this stuff, especially people who grew up with Zachery, so that, when he is eventually released (assuming he survives), people will know what he did.

You are right though, this is a lesson not just about Zachery Lynn Garner or Robin Olene Likens - it's a lesson to be careful about everyone, and a warning to parents to watch out for their kids.

I must confess, I still really do not understand how Zachery and Robin got to the stage where they could have done this. I am pretty much over the emotion of having my friend killed, but will still be immersed in the logistics of all her death left behind for many years.

I may have missed a lot of the past post. What crime did they do here in the states? Was that the reason they went to Mexico?

If you go to this Facebook group, I've posted everything about the case there, but, while I do not have a perfectly clear reason why they left for Mexico, Zachery Lynn Garner was on probation for several theft offenses in Dyersburg, and, as I understand it (though I don't 'know'), he had an active warrant out for armed robbery. He and Robin Olene Likens went first to California, as I understand it, and then into Mexico. I have no idea what jurisdiction the warrant for armed robbery was in.

They beat my almost 60 year old friend, Holly Jane Grunewald, to death for her ATM PIN code, stripped her body and wrapped it in duct tape, threw it down a local agricultural well, and, incredibly, moved into her house and were arrested driving her car, with all her IDs and ATM card. Not the brightest bulbs in the box, for sure.

The appeal of their conviction for the murder of Holly Jane Grunewald was officially denied yesterday, so the 23 year sentence for Zachery Lynn Garner, and 23 year sentence for Robin Olene Likens was confirmed, as well as a 82,081 peso fine (less than $6500). The twenty three years started from May 5th, 2009. They'll be out in May, 2032, at 42 and 43 years old.
