Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac and Other Antidepressants – Suicide

While antidepressants are designed to decrease the symptoms of depression, they occasionally have the opposite effect. Patients who take selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Prozac (fluoxetine), Paxil (paroxetine) or Zoloft (sertraline) may experience side effects such as violent behavior, mania or aggression, which can all lead to suicide..

Anyone who pays any attention to the events unfolding in our world should surely realize that we DON'T HAVE A GUN PROBLEM. Not a day goes by anymore that something completely INSANE doesn't happen.

Methheads, crackheads, heroine addicts, pillpoppers; illegal & legal drugs...it's no wonder we hear so much talk about a so-called zombie apocalypse. Does anything resemble the walking dead more closely than an addict either on the drug or withdrawing and willing to do anything to get his fix?

Its not the zombies it is the junkies we need to worry about. I think it should be legal to off them.

Societal disease & disorder is being dealt with the same way doctors deal with diseases & disorders; treating the symptoms and never resolving the root cause of the problems.

Is it the medication that is to blame? Or the underlying psychiatric disorder?

Good question. I would say neither because it all points back to the fact that the causes of the disorders and/or diseases are never addressed. So then, who or what's to BLAME? Big Pharma who profits by the billions? Doctors who get kickbacks from Big Pharma? Insurance companies who refuse to cover alternative treatments? Nobody with the money and/or power ever really wants to address the root of the problems; just pass out the little magic pills and if that doesn't work, they'll give you another..

Chemical imbalances in the brain. Insurance companies aren't going to pay for any treatments that are not FDA approved. Some people are not ever stabilized, there is never appropriate treatment for certain individuals. I know and understand all the government kickbacks and big profits of mega insurance companies.

One important thing I forgot to mention is that these drugs are being prescribed IMO to people who don't really need them.

Everyone has ups & downs in life but these days a little depression is treated like a mental disorder and energetic kids are diagnosed as having hyperactivity disorder. Back when I was a kid, if you weren't active and a little ornery, then somebody was asking if you were feeling alright!

I know that's right, but today it's called a disease and a disorder. And people wonder why the world is getting worse.

The mother liked guns but considering her whacked out kid I would NEVER have guns where he could get to them! Most of these kinds of people won't take their drugs and end up going off on someone (or more). In almost every case the issue is some (many times a young person) one who is seriously off their rocker and should never be allowed around guns. The guns should be locked away in a safe (with the key with an adult).

Plus, the school had security but the kid walked by them. How?

Momma D.,
It's unfortunate that most debate is on an object causing the deplicable recent carnage in CN. What should be discussed is the common factors in mass school shootings. Almost all were prescribed or under the influence of the psychotropic drugs you speak of. Big Pharma = Big Bucks

How is it that these drugs are approved by the FDA when nobody even knows HOW those drugs work or affect the brain?

Another thing that baffles me is the number of doctors that don't even bother to do some research of the meds they prescribe! They just listen to the little seminar that the "pushers" present to them.

People wonder why their kids get hooked on street drugs but I see no difference between a doctor telling an adult that some pill will make you better and a dealer telling your kid the same thing..

Always do your best to understand how any drug will affect you and most importantly, IF it's necessary! Many times there are alternatives..

Both. Handing out ritlen like candy to children that are diagnosed with so called "learning disorders" is absurd.

I read the same thing and was also wondering how he got past security. Agree 100% about guns being locked up but I never got the impression that this mother would have been so irresponsible. Perhaps the whole story isn't being told..

Then that would make the person diagnosing & prescribing at fault don't you think?

Not necessarily. I do think too many drugs are handed out to kids these days. We never heard of peanut butter allergies when I was growing up or "hyper activity" nonsense.

That said, if the doctor says to try a drug then the parent has to make sure the kid takes them as directed or seek a second opinion...

Including the parent(s) and often their own teacher. Sometimes a little wood shed medicine is all they need. Plus a lot of love.
