I worked at Bekaert for 8 years and I don't ever remember anything ever being said about a pension plan. And Bekaert's been gone for 6 years. How long have you been thinking about this? Time to move on.

I got my letter last week. I think I'm going to let mine stay in there until I am retirement age. Unless I decide to buy solar panels then I may decide to get the lump sum. It will be a good investment with some return over about the same period of time.

There was a option to do just 401k or 401k with pension, but if you did the pension also you would not get the lump sum into 401k at the end of the year. I did 401k only because I was younger.

If you want to continue to keep it in a retirement account you need to roll it over to an IRA so you don't have to pay any taxes and not cash it in now. Places like Edward d jones or another brokerage can help you with this.

Depending on when you worked there, if you had any pension benefits coming to you, you should have gotten a letter with your pension benefits when you left.

You better check your letter, since you have a certain amount of time to choose the lump sum payment, then it goes away.
