I was watching the news the other night and i was seeing where there are some Wal Mart employees that are considering going union with the new law being passed that gives the employee the right to choose if they would like to join. I completely support unions. My husband insists I buy groceries from Kroger seeing as though they are unioned.(yes, he is in a union) It is sad what Wal Mart puts their employees thru as much money as they profit. Employees cant even afford health insurance. Just wondering what everyone thought about it. Any Wal Mart employees want to open up? Lets talk!

Unions have worked so well for the car companies and they are doing wonders for the postal service.(sarcasm). I agree, Walmart does do its employees wrong, however, they will never unionize. Walmart is big enough that if employees do it at one store, Walmart will just close the store down and move. They have said it before which is the main reason why unions have not been able to get into Walmart.

I worked at Wal-Mart about ten years ago, when I hired in the first thing they did was make it very clear how against the unions they were. If anyone there tries to go union they will find a way to fire them. They claim it's their open door policy but it really boils down to the fact they want to keep the pay and benefits low and pull as much money up the corporate ladder as possible. Unions can be great but unfortunately some have taken advantage of it and that is why they don't do as well anymore. There is strength in numbers though, it sure couldn't hurt to get them in there!

UNIONS ARE THE REASON FOR UPWARD COST OF ANY PRODUCT THAT IS MADE OR SHIPPED IN THE U.S.. DO YOU WONDER WHY U.S. JOBS ARE GOING OVERSEAS . UNIONS INCREASE YOUR PAY ,ALLOW YOU TO DO ONLY ONE SPECIFIC JOB, DRIVE UP THE COST OF HOMES ,SERVICES, AND PRODUCTS TO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE UNION JOBS . LET DETROIT BE YOUR EXAMPLE 50% UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AND THOUSANDS OF HOMES FORECLOSED ON AND CAN'T BE SOLD BECAUSE OF INFLATED PRICES. BECAUSE IT IS A HIGH UNION EMPLOYED RATE PER POPULACE AREA .LOOK AT THE CAR COMPANIES IN DEBT !,THE POSTAL SERVICES IN DEBT! THE FEW WILL LIVE BETTER AT THE SACRIFICE OF THOUSANDS OF OTHERS OVER TIME .

my husband works for the union and its the best thing that has ever happened to him. he has excellent benefits and job security and amazing pay. when you are in a union or work for a union you cant just be fired. for anyone who has something against unions, they have been made to feel fearful they would loose their job if they even brought it up. i am thankful for the union my husband works for. without unions, you are only one voice that is very seldom heard. when you join with others to be able to speak up for you and your fellow co-workers, you will be heard. just because someone gives you a job doesnt mean they have a right to barely pay you or not give you benefits. and if everyone at wal mart in dyersburg joined a union, they wouldnt shut it down. and what does that say about wal mart? if someone speaks up about how they feel they will fire them or shut down the store? wal mart made BILLIONS last year. and the people that work there make minimum wage. well, the ones on the floor who do the actual work. they take these people and make them feel like they should be grateful for just having a job. the wages wal mart pays the people on the floor will keep those people in poverty. they wont ever get ahead and be able to enjoy the finer things. and their hard work is valuable to us. they dont realize how valuable they are. they cant even afford health insurance. anyone who disagrees with unions are selfish and could care less about anyone except themselves. sweatshops arent unioned either. just a thought.

The "amazing pay" union members receive is the main reason prices are so high for everything, as well as the reason Detroit went belly up which gave our socialist president the opportunity to take over. Unions are corrupt and only out for themselves. They couldn't care less about the rest of the country.

First of all, the ones on here bashing unions don't have a clue what they are talking about. You can't pool all unions together and say because this union was corrupt or pushed their bargaining over the limit that all are that way. There are pros and cons to anyting you look at. I can name some of the pros. One in particular is that unions provide training, a pool of qualified workers upon request, insurance benefits, and ensure that the workers rights are honored. If you don't agree with unions, you might as well leave the "United States". Why do you think all the states "unionized". There are power in numbers. Some companies are too big and push their workers way over the limit that is ethical. Unions ensure those workers are properly compensated, given proper breaktimes, and fair disciplinary action when punished. All those factories didn't come to dyersburg for the pretty scenary. They moved here from places like Illinois, in order to get away from unionized workers so that they could maximize their bottom dollar. Were those factories making money before they left? Of course they were. You can't call all unions bad because UAW, had union employees at GM plants. Ford is also unionized and you don't see them shutting the doors...

The reason prices are so high for everything? That's hilarious. Look at the things you buy day to day and see what is actually union made or for that matter made in the United States. Those high priced things are usually from overseas. Places like Wal Mart raise the prices on items that they pay nothing for. This causes Union or American owned companies not to be able to compete with those products we buy from overseas.... Do a little research before you start making ignorant statements...

Spoken like a typical yankee. Probably one of that socialist Obama's SEIU thug buddies. Thank God Tennessee has the open shop laws which keep you from being forced to join the union if others are stupid enough to vote one in.

Keep paying those union dues. Lot of good that has done so far.Early unions banded together until they got what they wanted then dissolved. Nowadays the unions get more money by collecting dues even after there is a contract. You really think the union gives a crap about you? As long as you pay those dues they do! Why don't you do some research and quit playing "follow the "leader"..

You are right, although some unions do get abused. The unions in a lot of work are to keep the foreign contractors out and keep the Americans in. Unions pay dues but a lot of people around here don't realize union workers get their health care paid for and also have a good pension when they retire that they don't have to put a portion of their salary into. I have met very few people here that have ever worked for the union outside of Goodyear workers. You will never be able to make them understand the perks of the union or how beneficial it is. I've tried it's a waste of time, they would rather make minimum wage and scrounge for everything.

Humm. you make an interesting point, but I have to ask, how do the companies pay for that? The health care paid for and the pension money has to be paid by someone...the consumer maybe? Thus driving up prices...don't get me wrong workers need a voice, I am just not too sure unions, as they are today, are the right choice

There are unions in this area. Their worthless and a joke. The people they are "helping" need a job in the fields and at McDonalds. Most of them can barely write their own name much less be productive. It hurts the employers, it hurts the economy and it falls down on we the people. I hope they shrivel up and blow away (all unions) then you can stand on your OWN MERIT or do without. Honest competition will do you some good and bring back solid work and production to America. Then when you have to earn that dollar you make, you'll think twice about screwing off on the job or wasting time, taking off, not showing up at work or taking things home from the job you shouldnt have.(All of these I see almost daily at work!) I wont cry if they kick the unions to the curb here.
