I think there is a thread similiar to this one...I believe it's called "a look back"

Too bad not many bothered posting on that one since that one and this one are virtually the same ones.

K-Mart was where Country Mart is now. Ben Franklin was where the County Court Clerk is now. Good times! Ohhhhh, and the drive-in theatre!

What about downtown...Woolworth's? There was a food counter where you could sit on stools and eat lunch. Also downtown was JC Penney's, and a loooong time ago there was a store called "Graber's" which was over where Diane Moore's office now is.

How about Gibson's? It was a small dept store before any Kmarts or Walmarts. It was adjacent to the corner by the Country Mart.
Piggly Wiggly in Dyersburg. The old theater that was downtown.
And best of all Newbern's Dairy Creme.

This would be a memory for people in their early thirties or late twenties...remember the old recovery cove in Southtown or country nights on St. John? We teens and tweens thought we were big stuff running around those places, gots us all into lots of trouble...Ah the good ole days!

On a side note Elrods did have the best fries, my aunt use to work there and she would bring home leftovers, those fries were the bomb!

Thank you for posting that picture! I went there in the 70s and I remember that first woman on the left.

Does anyone remember the Davis Shop downtown, or The Loft at Green Village, or Walker's which was on Troy Ave? First two were dress shops and the last one was a kids' clothing store.

Oh, how I miss Juan's Taco. They had the best cheese dip...and JCPenny being downtown. I loved going up and down those steps! The kids clothes were upstairs. "Memories", yes, you are right about Firestone. My dad would go there and get my brother's baseball gloves and stuff. We all hung out at the mall at Sound Shop when we were in high school. When you bought a cassette, they would write the date inside. I still have some of those tapes. Anybody remember Olympia Pizza downtown in the strip in front of old Kroger?
