In one of the bullet points attributed to Warren by Van Impe in Warren's and others attempt to make the "Church more acceptable" to the world was:
*Remove all symbols of the Cross from inside the church building.

On the surface this seems to be a blatant attack on Christianity. But when one delves deeper into the issue, one discovers some interesting facts.

-Apparently Warren and others want to remove the image of the Cross from inside the "sanctuary", the sanctuary being inside the church building, often called Gods house.

As if somehow, walking into a building makes a person holy or spiritual.

1 Timothy 3:15
But if I terry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Is the "House of God" a building with a steeple on it?

Colossians 4:15
Salute the bretheren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and THE CHURCH WHICH IS IN HIS HOUSE.

-The CHURCH is not the building, the Church is the assembly of Born Again Believers.

You have 2 views concerning the instrument or form of death in which Jesus Christ suffered at the hands of the Roman government soldiers ruling Israel during His life on earth.

"However the shape of the instrument on which Christ was crucified is not what is important, rather, what is crucial is the fact of the crucufixion in which the Son of God gave his life to pay for the sins of all humanity. The fact that cross like emblems and designs were present in non-christian religious practices does not eliminate it;s importance to Christians or prohibit it's proper use. What would be wrong, of course, would be to look SUPERSTITOUSLY TO THE CROSS AS AN ICON, OR TO WORSHIP IT'S IMAGE."

This quote taken from a Christian leader is true except for the statement " However the shape of the instrument on which Christ was crucified is not what is important".
Some try to deny that Jesus Christ actually died on a CROSS, saying that the cross was just a metaphor used to signify His martydom.

The fact is Jesus Christ died on A CROSS. The Roman form of Capital Punishment at the time of Christ.

Mattew 27:27-32
(27) Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
(28) and they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
(29) And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews.
(30) And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
(31) And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to CRUCIFY him. 1.
(32) And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they COMPELLED TO BEAR HIS CROSS. 2.

1. The word CRUCIFY comes from the Latin word "CRUX" which means "CROSS". So Jesus' CRUCIFIXION was on a literal CROSS, not on a pole as some have foolishly expounded.

2. The Bible says they "COMPELLED" a man by the name of Simon to carry Jesus' CROSS. To compel means "to force". The cross was not something that people were proud of or thought was "pretty".

The other side of the coin, as opposed to the rejection that Jesus Christ actually died on a cross, which is much more prevelant in Christendom and around thje world is the WORSHIP of the Cross.

One of the false religious premises is that the Cross symbol is "Christian" and the wearing of the cross is a symbol of Christianity.

The Bible (AV1611), the pure word of God, portrayal of the cross of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:13
Christ hath redeemed us from the CURSE of the law, BEING MADE A CURSE FOR US: for it is written, CURSED IS EVERYONE THAT HANGETH ON A TREE.

Jesus Christ hanging on the Cross suffering and dying for your sins and my sins,is equivalent to being cursed by God, Hence the popular expression God----! and "I'll be damned". Jesus was damned by God on your behalf and for yours and my sins.

Galatians 3:13 is a quote from:
Deuteronomy 21:22-23
(22) And if a man have committed a sin WORTHY OF DEATH, and he be put to death, and thou HANG HIM ON A TREE.

Jesus Christ did not commit "A SIN WORTHY OF DEATH". The Bible says in:

Hebrews 4:15
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, YET WITHOUT SIN.

DEUTERONOMY 21:23 Continued
His body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day; (for he that is hanged is accursed of God:) that thy land be not defiled, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

1 Peter 2:21-24
(21) For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also SUFFERED FOR US, leaving us an example, that ye shall follow his stepe.
(22) Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:
(23) Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again, when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:
(24) Who his own self BARE OUR SINS IN HIS OWN BODY ON THE TREE, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye are healed.

2 Corinthians 5:21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, WHO KNEW NO SIN; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The Christian life is a life of SELF-CRUCIFIXION:

Galatians 2:20
I am CRUCIFIED with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: And the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 5:24
And they that are Christ's have CRUCIFIED the flesh with the affections and lusts.

The Christian life:
Romans 6:6,9-11
(6) Knowing this, that are old man is CRUCIFIED with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, and henceforth we should not SERVE SIN.

(9) Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
(10) For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
(11) Likewise reckon ye also YOURSELVES TO BE DEAD INDEED UNTO SIN, but ALIVE UNTO GOD through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Luke 9:23-24
(23) And he said unto them all, If any man will come after me, let him DENY HIMSELF, and take up HIS CROSS daily, and follow me.
(24) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

Galatians 6:12,14
(12) As many as desire to make a FAIR SHEW IN THE FLESH...

That's what many churches are any more, just a FAIRY SHOW, Good people putting on a show IN THE FLESH. Of course, in a sense, everything you do on this side of the grave will be done in the flesh.
That's not what it's talking about.

...they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should SUFFER PERSECUTION FOR THE CROSS OF CHRIST.

That's where the spiritual, proverbial rubber meets the road.

(verse 14)
But God forbid that I should glory, save in the CROSS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST; by whom the world is CRUCIFIED unto me, and I unto the world.

We have NOTHING to glory in of ourselves. If you get to heaven, it'll be because and ONLY BECAUSE of what Jesus Christ did on the cross of Calvary.

Years I spent in vanity and pride
caring not my Lord was CRUCIFIED.
Knowing not it was for me He died
Mercy there was great, and grace was free
Pardon there was multiplied to me,
There my burden soul found liberty

Alas, and did my Savior bleed,
and did my sov'reign die?
Would He devote that sacred head
At the CROSS, AT the CROSS
where I first saw the light,
And the burden of my heart rolled away.
It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged CROSS,
The emblem of suffering and shame.
And I love that old CROSS where the dearest
and best for a world of lost sinners was slain
So I'll cherish the Old Rugged CROSS,
Till my trophies at last I lay down.
I will cling to the Old Rugged CROSS
And exchange it someday for a crown.

I must needs go home by the way of the CROSS
Ther's no other way but this
I'll shall ne'er get sight
Of the gates of light
If the way of the CROSS I miss.
The way of the CROSS leads home,
The way of the CROSS leads home.
It is sweet to know as I onward go
The way of the CROSS leads home.

I take, O CROSS, Thy shadow for my abiding place,
I ask no other sunshine then the sunshine
of His face.
Content to let the world go by,
To know no gain or loss.
My sinful self, my only shame, my glory all the

When I survey the wondrous CROSS,
On which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

And can it be that I should gain
an interet in the Saviours blood?
Died He for me, who caused his pain?
For me, who Him to death persued?
Amazing love! How can it be that thou,
My God shouldst die for me?
Amazing love! How can it be that thou,
my God shouldst die for me?

The CROSS was the form of death in which the Roman government administered Capitol Punishment during it's reign.

Luke 23: 32-33
(32) And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
(33) And when they were come to the place which is called CALVARY, there they CRUCIFIED him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

There were two ways in which the Romans would hang the condemned.
-With rope
-With nails (spikes)

Jesus was nailed to the CROSS.
Luke 24:36-40
(36) Ans as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.*
(37) But they were TERRIFIED and AFFRIGHTED,...

If somebody that you personally witnessed executed and buried 3 days earlier, walk up to you and said " Peace be unto you", I believe to say you were terrified would be an understatement.

...And supposed that they had seen a spirit.
(38) And he said unto them, why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
(39) Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me and see; for a sprit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
(40) And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them HIS HANDS AND HIS FEET.

Jesus still on the CROSS:
JOHN 19:31-34
(31) The Jews therefore, because it was the preperation, that the bodies should not remain upon the CROSS on the sabbath day,(for that sabbath day was a high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away.

These Jewish pharisaical religious depraved hypocrites were actually more worried about how they were perceived by the community in their conduct during a holy-day (a Jewish sabbath day) then they were about an innocent, righteous man that they had just murdered.
(32) Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
(33) But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
(34) But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

Breaking the legs of a person hanging on a cross would keep them from pushing themselves up with their feet against the bottom of the tree to get a breath of air. In essence, it would cause the person to suffocate. And if by chance they were still alive, there was no way they could crawl away and escape.

John 20:24-28 Doubting Thomas
(24)But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
(25) The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my fingers into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
(26) And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, THE DOORS BEING SHUT...

Jesus, in His glorified body, could walk through closed, locked doors.

...and stood in the midst, and said, PEACE BE UNTO YOU.
(27)Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behild my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
(28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.

That is, Thomas had the right responce, he calls Jesus His LORD and God.

In all, The LORD Jesus Christ has 5 wounds.
1 in each wrist, In the Bible, the wrist is considered part of the hand.
Genesis 24:22
And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earing of half a sheckel weight, and two BRACELETS FOR HER HANDS of ten sheckels weight of gold;

1 in each of His wrists/hands
1 in each of His feet
1 wound in His side where He was pierced by a spear.

"5" in the Bible is the number of death.

In Genesis 5:5 the first Adam died:
And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died.

Proverbs 5:5 In speaking of the last days Harlot Church.
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on Hell.

Overheard in a jewelry store, One woman speaking to another lady: " Look at this beautiful cross necklace they have for sale"

The CRUCIFIXION was the form of execution that the Romans used during their reign of the known world.

For somebody to wear a cross around their neck in an attempt to be spiritual, religious or a "Christian" is equivilent to someone wearing or portraying an Electric Chair, a Noose, a Guillotine, a bottle of Gas or Lethal Injection agant around their neck.
If you wanted to wear some Icon of Jesus Christ's salvation. The appropriate thing to wear is an image of a empty tomb.

The Cross without the resurrection is Satans greatest achievement (his finest hour, so to speak).

The Devil has no problem with somebody who worships or prays to a Jesus hanging on a cross.

Matthew 28:6
He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Mark 16:6
And he saith unto them, be not affrighted, Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was CRUCIFIED: HE IS RISEN; he is not here; behold the place where they laid him.

Luke 24:5-7
(5) And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead.

BTW, That is what people are doing across America by the millions, by going to bars, night clubs, casinos, rock concerts and hollywood movie premiers. They're seeking the living among the dead. They're looking for life among this worlds graveyards.

(6)He is not here, but is risen: Remember how he spake unto you while he was yet in Galilee,
(7) saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be CRUCIFIED, and the third day rise again.

John 20:13-14
(13) And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.
(14) And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

(16) Jesus saith unto her, Mary, she turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni, which is to say, Master.

The symbol of Christianity is not Jesus hanging on a cross. The symbol of Christianity (if there is one other than the Bible) is an EMPTY TOMB.

The Christian life-

2 Corinthians 4:5,10,11
(5) for we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
(10) Always...
(Not just on Sunday morning)
...bearing about IN THE BODY...
(Not on the body or around the neck)
...the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest IN (Not on)
(11) For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest IN...

Most of the time, when people put a CROSS around their neck, they are attemting to:

The Biblical Christian life is far-removed from anything most people see today as "Christian".

Does wearing a cross make a person a Christian or mean a person is a Christian?

No more than wearing a badge makes a person a Crime fighter,
Or, wearing a wedding ring makes a person a devoted husband or wife.
Or, wearing pants makes you a man.

If a person wears a cross, it could mean:

-Their an advocate of Nazism. The emblem of Nazism is a perverted, warped CROSS. Hundreds of thousands were deceived in the earlier part of the 20th Centurt into thinking Nazism was the worlds saviour. Nazism was not the path of life. The Man from Nazareth was, not the prophet of Nazism.

-Your a fan of X- Men. "X" is a inverted CROSS. "X" marks the spot.
Rated "X".
Malcolm "X"

-Your a 1960-70's "Peace" activist, i.e, Woodstock throw-away protesting the Vietnam War.
The so-called "Peace" symbol that millions of Americans so proudly displayed on their shirts, hats and Volkswagen Bugs/Beetles is an upside down, broken CROSS.

Why do you think a Nation of unclean, unwashed filthy longhaired dope smoking hippies would wear an upside down broken cross?
Because they loved truth, righteousness and Jesus Christ? I think not!
Colossians 1:20
And, having made PEACE through THE BLOOD OF HIS CROSS, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

-The other symbol famous for being associated with "peace" was the 2 fingers (index and middle finger) raised up in a "V" shape. Actually this symbol was used throughout the world during WW2 to mean "VICTORY", not "peace".

Someone says "What's wrong with peace?" Nothing whatsoever! But without Jesus Christ dying on the cross of Calvary and coming back to this world, you have NO REAL PEACE.

Colossians 1:21-22
(21) And you, that were sometimes alienated and ENEMIES in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
(22) In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.

Remember that Satan is an imitator that raised up a bunch of dope smoking hippies that ran around the country with their upside down broken cross crying "Peace, Peace" and "Peace brother!"

Jeremiah 6:14
They have healed also the hurt of the daughters of my people SLIGHTLY, saying PEACE, PEACE; when there is no PEACE.

Isaiah 57:21
There is no PEACE, sayeth my God, to the wicked.

Isaiah 59:8
The way of PEACE they know not; and there is no judgement in their goings: They have made them CROOKED PATHS...
Like their crooked cross of PEACE.
...Whosoever goeth therein shall not know PEACE.
