Gibson County school system reeks of politics and until you do away with the politics the school will never be any good. But you can bet South Gibson County campus and school will fit the bill with all the newest technology and best teachers....they even have a storm shelter! Guess it doesnt matter is the main gibson county campus gets blown away along with its students. The superintendant has his own personal agenda since his children and grandchildren live in Medina. This county cannot continue to support 5 school systems. GCSSD supports 5(if you include Medina) K thru 8 schools. In this economy something will have to be cut......such as consolidating all K thru 12 to main GC campus cutting out 4 schools and 4 principles. And there will be another property tax increase thru the GCSS Board and there is not a thing we as citizens can do about it.

Wonder how many students that attend South Gibson are actually from Madison County? Look at the population of Medina, and then consider the fact that there 7 or 8 second grades. Where are all those children coming from? How many teachers are actually from Gibson County? Is South Gibson actually the New JCS? Let them become a city school and take some of the pressure off of Gibson County residents. No wonder the teachers in North Gibson only got a 1% pay raise.

LOL Have you folks even driven around Medina lately? People are packed in all of those new neighborhoods like sardines. And before anybody asks, no I don't live in Medina and you couldn't pay enough to either( taxes are high and not much in the way of city services). The point is how do you figure that the Dyer campus is the main campus? I would really like to see how you would go about wadding all of the county students in to the "main" Dyer campus, there is barely enough room and parking there now for school and related events so where are you going to put approx double to maybe even triple the number of current students? As for the newest technology and whatnot, of course most of the stuff at SGCHS is newer than GCHS, it is a brand new school, but lets not forget the number of renovations and improvements made at GCHS at the same time SGCHS was being built. But then again if SGCHS has it so good then where are the baseball, football, softball, band practice fields the GCHS has? Oh yeah they don't exist because the system can't allot the money for lighting and bleachers. I know I don't have a dog in this race but then again when you had to drive from the south end of the county to Dyer everyday for 4 years to HS it is nice to see a HS a little closer for those in the system in the south end of the county. I would personally like to see all the schools in the county, city or county succeed, and remember the more schools open and the more teachers means less folks out of work looking for a job.

GCHS is the main campus because that is where the main office is. Duh...

it is a well known fact that the Medina schools are packed full of kids from Madison County and Humboldt...Medina isn't even as big as Dyer and all those new homes are in the city limits....hell Medina is huge...land wise. why do they have so many more kids than not only Dyer but Dyer, Rutherford and Kenton put together? and these northern towns are twice as big together than Medina and Gibson together... can't believe you people don't see all this...

the administration looks the other way....why? because it is their cash cow....more students equals more money. Medina has brand new school buildings and the best in technology...also facts.

the super's grandkids go there....no wonder....duh
there's no question where his loyalties lie...man o man...this is rich...

amazing that there are no text books in the 'old' schools up north....terrible buildings....and teachers can't even get materials they need to teach....meanwhile Medina's sittin' pretty. yea GCHS got some new additions...an auditorium that has been needed for a long time and a practice gym. oh, that was needed. come on....paint peeling from the walls in Yorkville and they build a practice gym.....smart...real smart.

isn't the city of Medina building ball fields for the schools? so quit complaining about that...wow!

the main campus will be in Medina soon enough....they will move the district office there before long so the super can be with his grandkids....no doubt.

Pay raise? There was no pay raise for MOST teachers in the Gibson County schools. MEDINA teachers got a 2% RAISE but all the other schools did not get a raise so I suppose you can average that to 1%.

I agree with you Rumpel. Ask my child about books to help with homework, and guess what, no text books. There aren't enough to go around so they do not get to bring them home. Sad, wonder if SGCHS has enough books for all those children. And one other thing, I seriouisly doubt that Medina has higher taxes than Dyer, and we all have the same county taxes and they are all going up.

Sad, how many of those teachers hired for Medina are from Gibson County. I know the principal and band director came from JACKSON, just wonder how many more did?

Why did Medina teachers get a raise and teachers from North Gibson not get one?

folks need to be aware of GCSSD board asking nashville for a 42 cent property tax increase to build a new elementary school in medina due to over crowding..........when the least expensive solution would be to bus the medina elementary overflow to Spring Hill, Yorkville and Rutherford who all have really low numbers.......its not an idea for the kids but with the recession and county budget problems..........it could be a workable temporary solution instead of a 42 cent increase for the school plus what the county commissioners pay impose,,,,,,,,,,i would suggest starting with the newcomers from jackson to be the first to be bused!!!!!!!!!!

Let me tell you about SGCHS. It stinks!! We moved here for a better and safer environment for our children. Our kids can only go to the medina schools unless we go through 3 tons of red tape to get them moved. The school still does not have enough text books, the kids have to share!! They run out of overpriced lunch for these kids everyday. The faculty doesn't give a damn about these kids. Many parents are pulling their kids out and homeschooling! I am considering that myself Or a private school and get the hell out of here. I can't afford private school or I would! The taxes are outrageous!! No one can tell you or show you where the tax money is going!! Our taxes alone on a very modest home is $300 a month!!!! Now take that amount ( and higher ) and multiply all the new homes here in medina!!! Where are the taxes going????

Your taxes are going to be higher because the County passed a 23 cent per hundred tax hike yesterday. And we here the Gibson Co School Board is going to raise the taxes even more to BUILD a NEW 1-8 grade school in Medina! In North Gibson Co Schools the kids are also sharing books! BUT WE DO HAVE A NEW GYM for Basketball O & we still have the old one that we use. We also have ALOT of people that have retired & been replaced still working there old jobs & getting payed for it. How bout that? CRAZY,CRAZY.

A post to crazy. You say you live in a very modest house in Medina. Assuming you are inside the city limits and pay county, city, and school taxes, even with the new tax increase the county passed yesterday, your "modest" house would have to be at least a $330,000 house to pay $300 per month in taxes. If you were using the tax rates of last year, which I suspect, your "modest" home is approximately $350,000. Either you need to downsize to a dump like I live in with taxes about a third of what you say you pay, or you need to thank your lucky stars you have a job that affords you the opportunity to live in such a "modest" home.

If your house is appraised for 150,000 your taxes would not be 300 a month
