Well well well, the City has finally grown some nuts. The decent people of this City are sick and tired of the mutts screaming and swearing and running around shirtless like a bunch of low life morons. Well, now your actions are catching up to you. The City has begun tearing down your beloved Basketball court.
But now you are all crying about it? Give me a break, how long did you seriously think the people would continue to put up with your crap? Hopefully this is only the first step, hopefully the City will continue to shut down problem areas. You all brought this on yourselves, and we dont feel bad for ya.
If you want to play basketball so bad, then go to Sconondoa park, or Vets, or Harmon. You have plenty of other places to go play. Or, maybe you could consider getting jobs and being productive members of society? Maybe go EARN your own money instead of taking hard earned money from the tax payers. GOOD JOB ONEIDA!

I totally agree. I am happy that the mayor and council finally took a stand. But I am not surprised they caved and stopped the work. We need to stop catering to the low-lifes who do nothing but suck the tax payers and economy dry. I have gone to the Post Office and heard these people swearing and yelling, and running around without shirts and being totally disrespectful. I even saw them disrespecting a cop who stopped by and warned them to knock it off. Even the police are sick of it.
Yet now they expect US to bow to THEM? NO WAY! The mayor needs to show them that they mean business and that it wont be allowed. I bet most of the supposed signatures are from downtown, non-contributing people. Would be interesting to see how man of them work and pay property taxes....
Tear out the damn basketball court and tell them to go to one of the other parks to play their games. Meanwhile, the rest of us will try to do business and maybe we can try to attract more customers without the fear of the disrespectful people in the park.

Couldn't agree more. You guys hit the nail on he head. Instead of them getting their hangout back, we need to stand up and take our city back. A great start that could be a major improvement if the mayor and council stand their ground. The park clean up, the nuisance laws, and whatever else can be done. We are all sick of the drains on our society. Lets take OUR city back!

I have lived here for 35 years and can recall this park always packed. If you are so offended by the people at the park then why open business near there. Why would you park next to the park when the banks have their own lots plus several city lots are available. Yes I am a' working home owning taxpayer. Max should have our DPW fixing the shitty pave job. You southsiders would rather have people sitting down eating than excercize . Well if you knew why the park was put there n the first place was for the kids. Not for local workers to have an outside lunchroom. Oh yeah I will be also filming and reporting any vehicles driven or parked on city streets by the wacky duck car dealership. Our city owns very hazardous building on Sconondoa Street that needs to be demolished. If MAX wants to spend our money then go knock that down instead of taking away a park for your banks and car dealers.

That sucks. I use to play there in my teen and young adult years. Never once was there a problem. The original poster is probably another "cry-baby Caucasian." It's too bad, you give the rest of us a bad name. You know, the tolerant ones who don't judge and assume. You're what's wrong with humanity and you're probably a terrible human being. Of course, I'm assuming that's what you are. You're post screams of "poor me" and "that's not fair." Plus, my asshole radar has picked up a blip.

The city of Oneida has no imagination at all. Market Oneida as a place you can stay healthy an active. Put more basketball courts in. Put more things in that will promote healthy activities rather than just sitting there all day. Honestly, it's probably those that sit around all day and think about what they can get into because they have no job. A park just for the bankers and business people, Monday through Friday.. What a joke. That's really going to draw people in. City officials wonder why Downtown can't thrive when it's them hindering progress. Just saying, Vern couldn't have stated it any more clear.

I love how people feel all the kids are bad news that are from downtown. Kids playing basketball doesn't mean trouble. Some have obviously been hiding under a rock. Some of the biggest druggies and bullys come from The Heights. Before you start saying crap about others check yourself and your neighbors. Only difference between uptown and downtown kids is that uptown kids get protected by mommy and daddy. Ex. Doctors, cops and government people.

Wow, now everyone is innocent and the city is just picking on you? Or maybe you all brought it on yourselves and can't handle the consequences for your actions. Do you people really think this has anything to do with being active and playing basketball? Of course not! It has to do with disrespectful punks who have ruined it for everyone. If your going to be mad, be mad at them for causing this. This has nothing to do with anyone's social status.
