John,
Would you be able to find information on this for me. My fourth graders are really excited about this idea, and they aren't excited about much these days. I'd love to get them involved in helping their community. Thanks so much.

I work at a water bottling plant in Mechanicsville Virginia called Spring Run Bottling Company Inc. When a bottle has a cap screwed on cock-eyed or it goes on so tight it breaks the seal, our checking system shoots the bottle out. We take off the cap and it's ring and put them in a special bin. Then, at the end of the week a co-worker of mine brings the caps home and his mother, a nurse at a local hospital, takes them to her boss. I wish i could be more helpful on the name of the program or its founders, but it most certainly does exist. I believe every cap is 1 second of chemotherapy. It doesn't seem like a lot, but with 120 bad bottles a day, that's 14 minutes of free chemo a week.
So 'a voice' in NC, you are mistaken.
SO PROVE IT...GOT ANY FACTS YET???MANY SAY IT EXISTS BUT CANT PROVE IT...GUESS WHAT THAT MEANS???
IF YOU HAVE NO WHERE TO SEND THEM, THEN IT DOESN'T EXIST!!!

I believe this to be a hoax after extensive research, but that does not mean I will give up on the hope that it could be or become true. So "John" if you could tell us the name of the place they are taken it would be very much appreciated. OR anyone else for that matter. I work in an Elementary school so we could definately get ahold of many caps.

Also, the soda can pop tabs are collected and used for charities. The aluminun is a cleaner metal than the actual can itself. These are not worth very much in small quantities but in larger quantities a decent amount of money can be raised. The Ronald McDonald house does collect these. They ask that you do not mail pop tabs to them because generally the cost to ship them outweighs the $$ obtained from recycling them. They do however accept drop off donations of them. If you do not live near a RMH they ask that you take the tabs to be recycled and mail them a check.

This is an Hoax:
There is no such thing as a caps for cancer drive.
While it is a rather cruel joke considering the lives of
cancer patients are involved. You would think most people
would be intelligent enough to investigate such a rumor to
begin with. Questions like- Where do you send the caps when
your done collecting them? or how do you redeem them for that
supposed aid for some dieing cancer patient? If you truly wish
to help some one with cancer make a donation to the-
American Cancer Society... Repeat: IT'S A HOAX!

I just wanted to let everyone know that there is now a program out there that let you recycle your caps for children with sever injury and illness and animals that are homeless and abused. Caps for Care was started in December 2009 by me to bring this hoax to a reality. From the money raised I only keep enough to keep the company running, the rest is donated to organizations that help children with sever injuries and illnesses and the Human Society to help the animals. Please visit my web site www.capsforcare.com If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I am based in Florida but accept the caps from all over.

I just got off the phone with someone from Riley Hospital. He said that the bottle cap thing is no true. If they get the bottle caps, they just go in their recycling bin and that it does not help anyone! He was quick it point out that the pop tabs do benefit the Ronald McDonald House though.

The Ronald McDonald House does collect these. They are much easier to collect than the whole can and the aluminum on the tab of the can is pure whereas the aluminum of the can has other alloys in it. Girl Scouts also collect these. There are several websites that claim this is a hoax. Everyone in my area (SC) is collecting them for dialysis and other treatment programs.

A year ago I started collecting bottlecaps for a child in the area so that he could receive free dialysis treatments. The person who requested bottlecaps to be saved was receiving dialysis treatments that his medical coverage paid for. I heard that the program had been discontinued and now I have thousands and thousands of bottlecaps and no where to send them. Please post an address if someone knows of a valid address and I will send all that I have. I thing that this may be a program but not many hear of it unless you are very needy.

I've heard of the caps-4-chemo too, but, really, bottle caps are just #5 plastics, like yogurt cups and the heavy-duty takeout containers. Here's a link for five recycling:

http://earth911.com/news/2009/01/07/want-to-k...

The displays at the whole foods also show that the fives are recycled into toothbrushes as well as other containers.
