Does Zappala have to go down to Florida to ask Mervos and Fialkovich which vendor for the school owns the condo they stay in and get free food, free lodging, free plane fare, etc. How's that work?

If you have indisputable evidence that vendors in supplied the condo for the two, then via the Right to Know Act you can get a copy of their 2009 STATEMENT OF FINANCIAL INTERESTS form after March 31, 2010. If the values of these gratuities are over $250.00 they must report it on the SFI.

If they did not report it on the SFI form then the State Ethics Commission and IRS are the complaint venues.

It is to our advantage that the IRS has no dogs in local political election races. Exploit this asset if you want to be a true corruption fighter.

"The (Orie) raid, the indictment, all of this came down exactly at the time that Judge Joan Orie Melvin was campaigning and made statements about that Luzerne County scandal," Wecht told KQV. "That's when 'Little Stevie Boy,' as I refer to him, made his move. This will prove to be, I think, a big zero. I believe it's going to be a door that he will have opened, that he is going to be very, very unhappy about."

Two Luzerne County judges are accused of accepting millions of dollars in kickbacks for sending juvenile offenders to detention centers in Luzerne and Butler counties. Gregory Zappala, the prosecutor's brother, co-owned the centers at the time.

In December, attorneys representing the juveniles removed Gregory Zappala's name from civil lawsuits because they found no connection between him and the kickbacks. He has not been accused of wrongdoing.

Wecht accused Stephen Zappala of telling an unnamed state legislator in 2005, "Anybody that screws with me or my family is going to be indicted."

Wecht declined to identify the state legislator. The prosecutor did not address the assertion.

Wecht challenged the news media to investigate the "big salaries" that Zappala's father, retired Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen A. Zappala Sr., and his sister, attorney Michele Zappala Peck, are drawing from the "Pennsylvania state gaming commission."

Zappala Sr. and his daughter work for the Pennsylvania Casino Association, a private nonprofit outfit. The association has resisted efforts by one lawmaker to register as a lobbyist, which would require greater disclosure of its finances and interactions with legislators.

During the Senate debate on table games last night, Senator Jane Orie, R-McCandless, took direct aim at the father and sister of District Attorney Stephen Zappala for hiding their compensation in the Pennsylvania Casino Association.

"Justice Zappala in that year is not listed as executive director. None of us know how much he's been paid. Michelle Zappala Peck not listed as operation director. No compensation listed. Again, a violation of the IRS.

"Two members of the judiciary, one former and one present, that are familiar with compliance and laws and regulations, blatantly disregarding compliance," Orie told her Senate colleagues.

Luzerne County judge arrested for assault
By Elizabeth Skrapits (Staff Writer)
Published: January 18, 2010

Judge C. Joseph Rehkamp

The judge who has been helping take care of Luzerne County court cases while the county bench is shorthanded was arrested Sunday after an argument with his wife allegedly turned physical.

Senior Judge C. Joseph Rehkamp, 61, faces charges of simple assault and harassment, state police at Wyoming reported.

According to arrest papers, police responded to the West Mountain Road, Plymouth Twp., home of the Rehkamps around 8:56 p.m. Saturday. Valerie Rehkamp told police she and her husband, the judge, had come home from dinner about 8:15 p.m.

She said she told Judge Rehkamp he had not acted appropriately that night and asked him to sleep somewhere else.

Mrs. Rehkamp's son, Elliot Egenlauf, told police Judge Rehkamp entered the house after being told not to and an argument broke out between Mrs. Rehkamp and Judge Rehkamp.

Mr. Egenlauf said he heard "a lot of yelling and arguing" in the bedroom, then the couple came out into the living room and continued fighting in front of him.

Judge Rehkamp pushed Mrs. Rehkamp down, slamming her into a chair, then placed both hands on her neck and started to choke her, leaving red marks, police said.

Mr. Egenlauf said he got between the two and told Judge Rehkamp to leave. Judge Rehkamp drove off in his Ford Crown Victoria.

A single term for EVERY ELECTED office would significantly impede or mitigate, nepotism, abuse of authority, abuse of discretion, fraud, cronyism, and corruption.

The first term of every office is dedicated to securing subsequent terms by any means possible. The means justify subsequent re-elections. The term “incumbent” is too frequently synonymous with covertly nurturing vices by elected officials.

Two or more terms are NOT required to “learn a job.” Our combat and deployed military are in harms way during their first “enlistment term.” And, they do an excellent and patriotic duty with little pay and low pension without the need for a second term to excel. Their lives are on the line the first day in the military, whether it is dangerous training or high risk combat.

A single term limit is a more effective way of eliminating the perpetuation vices that accompany subsequent terms.

We need a state single term referendum. Get all the bums and parasites out by force of law.
