Why is toll money diverted to pay for road needs other than the Turnpike?

It is supposed to be part of the Federal Interstate System. Fire the overpaid employees, tear down the toll booth buildings and turn it over to Obama. Toll roads are like parking meters. Outdated costly and not needed.

Well,,,,,,,,,,looks like 14 cent Ed Rendell struck again...Any means to get that money into the Philly area...Maybe he should cough-up some of that money that he makes on the pre game and post game show for the football team in Philly..

I have a suggestion. If the data won't support a cost of living increase for social security annuitants then no government service we have to pay for should be allowed to raise prices. Only sounds fair.

This is ridiculous! It almost costs me just as much in toll as it does in gas to go see my son in school in Pittsburgh! With this increase, the gas is actually going to be the lower cost. And the road is still a mess, especially around the Bedford exchange. Guess I'm going to be going across on Rt. 30 as well come next year.

well for a class 7 tractor trailer the 10% increase is huge!!! so that means raise the shipping rates for truckers and charge more at the grocery store, the gas station, the lumber yard, everywhere it will cost everybody more!!!!!

My first reaction was wtf?? My son goes to school in pittsburgh too, so I know what you're feeling. Everything's going up - tolls, tuition, taxes. I'm so sick of it. Did anyone out there hear that there's a recession going on?? It's always the little guy that gets squeezed - the government makes sure they're taken care of. When will it end?

Well, Ship Fan, we know it won't end before Franklin county gets their chunk......for the new courthouse we so desperately need.

Bend over and hold that position.

The majority of trips we take on the turnpike are slowed down signicantly because of construction zones and/or stretches where the turnpike is in terrible, undrivable condition. Why should we keep paying more for less?!!!! Turnpike tolls are a tax no matter what they are called and taxes keep rising while services are declining. Perhaps a return to more scenic roads is advisable and might even result in some jobs being created by businesses along routes such as Rt. 30 which could boost the economy for everyone in PA, not just the state.

We moved to PA last year from NY because of NY taxes. Now PA is turning into NY. Instead of hitting the taxpayers of PA, put a 1% sales tax on clothing. I understand people from other states flock to PA to buy clothing. Even at 1% they will still come. Tax on clothing in NY is about 8%. Look into a bottle deposit like other states have. All sorts of avenues besides the Turnpike which is a mess. We stopped using it when we travel in our motor home.$2.50 per toll both on the NS extension. Outrageous.
I am registered to vote and voting against anyone who even hinted at a new tax. People are out of work. Who's going to pay these taxes? Seniors ...that's who.
