Went in to have a repair done on my emergency brake. The Firestone mechanics came to me with a list of "recommended" services that amounted to $5,478.00. I told them " &%#@ no", and asked how much it would cost me to have JUST the emergency brake fixed. That amount was over $500. I told them to put it all back together, and I then took the vehicle to Bruce Titus Chevrolet in Tacoma. They found and retrieved the part, and installed it in an afternoon ... for $320.00.

I would NOT recommend the Firestone Auto Center on Fort Lewis. While I was there, not ONE person came in that didn't need a "recommended" amount of work done that was less than $500. Even people that were just getting an oil change all of a sudden needed radiator flushes, brake pads replaced, etc., etc.

Buyers beware at Firestone on Ft. Lewis, they will scam you for everything they can get you for.

The exact same thing happened to us just last week. We took our auto in to just find out how much a water pump would be and the price was more than triple buying it and installing it ourselves. They also gave us recommendations that totaled over $3200.00. We were then told that they could not repair the one thing that was leaking and we would have to get all of the repairs done since we are on post. I have never heard of anything like this in my life!!! Then they changed the oil with a wopping bill of almost $70.00 for a small old car. How crazy!!!!

Same thing happen to me. My pulley assembly broke and I took it to Firestone on Fort Lewis. They quoted me approximately $870.00 for generic parts and labor. I took my SUV/Mitsubishi to Bruce Titus in Olympia; labor and genuine Mitsubishi parts totaled $350.00. I filed a complaint with Firestone Consumer Relations and also AAFES who they are contracted through, which probably went into file 13. They are the biggest rip-offs in town and to think they are allow to service our Soldiers, their families while they are deployed and our Veterans. What a shame.

A friend called me one day after getting quoted a bill of $1800.00 to replace all four calipers and rotors. I told him to get the hell out of there and that I'd fix his car. the problem was his master cylinder, NOT the CALIPERS, or the ROTORS. He bought the part for $120.00 and I spent 30min on installation and bleeding. He gave me fifty dollars for my time. I felt that wasn't bad for half an hour, plus I saved my friend $1,630.00 I wish I could just put a sign up with my phone number maybe I will. THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS SHIT EVERYDAY!!!

A soldier in my unit had to replace his brake pads. He went there and was told that the calipers needed replaced along with tires. I told him to take it elsewhere but he had already authorized the work. Cost him over 2,000 when all said and done. I could change pads for less than 100. I won't send any soldier there if I can help it.

I just a little different situation with fort lewis firestone. I took my car in because of a leaky tire, turns out it was a nail in my tire, so the patched it. 2 days later the same tire was still leaking, so I brought it back in. They told me that in the 2 and a half miles I had driven it, that I had somehow ran over another nail in the exact same spot on my tire, so the tire couldn't be replaced, and I had to buy a brand new tire. Seems to me it would be way more likely that they did a crappy patch job, and that why the tire was leaking! Oh and just like everyone else they came out with recommendations for about $2,000,and they were all things I had just had done on my car a month before(rotation of tires and full engine service). This place is a rip off!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe this place. Why does the military do business with Firestone? The one in Schofield is ridiculous as well. we just get here are car breaks down and roadside assistance tows it to firestone. It was the water pump and they wanted to charge us over 750.00 for the total repair. I got it towed to blessings auto repair and they fixed everything for less than half that much including the tow. Do you realize firestone charges almost 120.00 per hour for labor alone!! There is nothing patriotic about firestone. Thats one contract that the military shouldn't reup.

i have very good luck with the fort lewis firestone. the one thing about auto repairs these days its not cheap and you get what you pay for. ive had work done at other shops that wont stand behind the work they perform i know firestone does!

WARNING!!!!!! Stay away from FIRESTONE. I went in to have a rear wheel bearings put in my truck. Putting the bearings and seals in is not rocket science. I have done plenty of work on vehicles at home that were a lot more difficult. Unfortunately, I had shoulder surgery prior to this, so I was not able to do the work myself. They gave me a printed out copy of what was involved to have it done. The price they gave me was $619.00. I was like wow!!!! The parts them self you can get at any auto parts store at or under a $150. Reluctantly I decided to bite the bullet and have the work done. Took them all day to complete the job. When I arrived at the store, the price changed from $619 to $888.99. I was like “WHAT!!!!! They were trying to charge me for Battery Corrosion, and Fuel System Tune Up. I told them straight out I did not authorize that. After arguing with them for half an hour, they took it off. Then I noticed they charged me $80.99 for rear end oil. I inquired on the oil price. There response was,“Oil did not come with them replacing the bearings and seals”. You can go and get rear end oil at any auto parts store for way under $20.00. I told them to take it out and put in the oil that was in there and I never agreed to pay $80.99. Anyway, after all that I ended up paying $784.66. I went to leave and my emergency brake did not work. Went back in and asked them to fix my brake. There Response was,“It was like that when you came in”. I showed them the previous work done on my truck that I had done with the breaks. The mechanic came in got my key did and eye roll and a big deep sigh got my key. 15 minutes later, he gives me the key without a word said. I go to leave and the so in so tightened the cable so hard, it fraid now. I had to get under the truck and loosen it with a Gerber. I have to get a new cable because they wanted to be smarty-pants and over stretch and tighten the cable on my emergency brake. Do not ever go there! They will take you for every penny they can steal from you and claim it is legal. I am going to pursue this further through base legal, the ICE Program on base and talk to the Better Business Bureau.

Oh goodness... Stay away from these people... They are crooks! While I was telling the "manager" there about the issues I had with their business practices, he used foul language in front of a child that was in the waiting area. Very unbecoming for a corporate business to allow such imbeciles.

Stay away? That may be the short term solution, but the big question is why are they still under contract with all the over charging they do? I find it difficult to believe with sooomany issues there hasnt been an investigation of over pricing for services on post. Does the IG have knowledge of this and can anything be done?

I concur with the previous comments. I went in to have a light bulb on the front left head light replaced. They wanted to charge me $177.00 for labor! I'd like to know they are smoking. The managers name is Cliff stay away unless you plan on taking out an AER loan to pay for repairs.
