Scally's is getting RICH off of elderly widowed women!

My mother (in her 70's) took a 2 year old her car for an OIL CHANGE. She walked out will a bill of over $600. Why? Because they told her she "needed" the repairs, the car was "unsafe", and she simply doesn't know any better since my father used to do all of the repairs on their vehicles. The car only has 21,000 miles on it, and was dealer maintained before she moved to the area.

When I drove there and inquired about it, I was greeted with 3 overweight owners / employees who insisted she "she agreed to the repairs" therefore she got them. I will be contacting the BBB, the State Attorney, and every newspaper / reporter that will listen to me. I think the AARP will find this interesting too.

This place needs to be called "SCAMMY'S".

It is sad what happened to your mother, but the cost of repairs is skyrocketing with the state of the economy and I do hope that you get the matter resolved. Question: Why are you going to include the BBB, the State Attorney, and the AARP for a $600 dollar repair on your mothers car? Do you think that they have more important matters to pertain to? Also what does the owners being overweight have anything to do with it? It seems like your attacking the men themselves, not their work ethics. Attempt to reason with the business men because I'm sure they don't want to lose a valuable customer such as yourselves with a car that is only worth 2 years old! That's pretty much a lifetime customer in the mechanic world! haha. Best of Luck

My husband and I have taken our cars to Scallys for oil changes for the past three years and never experienced any problems like this. If they recommended something other than an oil change, it's likely the repairs were needed. They have plenty of business and don't need to scam the elderly or anyone else.

I know this is a little diffrent from the first poster, but I know for a fact that at least one tow truck driver from Scallys is a drug addict, he goes to the customer and tells them to say the tow is too costly and you are going with a diffrent company. Then he pockets the money and tows your vehicle. Of course not in that order, he told me that after he towed the car.

ctjkeeper123,

You're missing the point. The ONLY reason she went there was for an OIL CHANGE, because the dealer is too far out of way for her. The car was maintained by the dealer (still under warranty) before she moved to that area. Considering she barely drives the car, I find it extremely hard to believe it needed any major work. It isn't even due for the 30k factory service.

No, the BBB any one else doesn't have anything else better to do, it's their JOBS.

The comment about them being overweight was meant to show they are getting fat off of scamming people.

That's too funny - I happen to make plenty of my own money (actually, HONEST employees make it for me), and chances are I pay more in taxes than you make in a year.

I can't wait until you (or someone who simply doesn't know any better and is scared into thinking their car is a danger to themselves or others) gets screwed over by these scumbags.

Oh, before you go and try to post something "witty", please use proper grammar and spelling. Oh wait - you're in Dunnellon, never mind.

lol. I touched a soft spot I see. The fact of the matter is your mother should have just gotten the oil change. They didn't make her spend more money. Please believe that if they were ripping people off in Dunnellon no one would go to them anymore. This is a small town and everyone knows each other. The business is always busy and their restaurant is always packed.

Unfortunately, pie, this is a pretty common practice, and you need to wake up, or just stop responding and go eat your pies.

Blaming the mother for not "just getting the oil changed" is ridiculous. Go sit in the waiting room on one of the "busy days" you mention. Watch the pit rats (calling them "mechanics" would be a disgrace to the profession) come in and tell each customer the "other things" they found wrong during the "free inspection". You can and will clearly see the different demeanor when dealing with an elderly woman compared them telling it to a man. This is the same place that charges a $25 mandatory "shop fee" when all they use is a can of brake cleaner.

But on another note...

It's funny how one can get their car aligned at a dealer (their equipment is always calibrated and up to date), and drive directly to these clowns for an alignment. Ask for a before and after printout. Not only will they not provide you with it, but your car won't track correctly, your steering wheel won't be straight, and you'll be buying new tires in a very short time (that's their hope - you'll go to them when the time comes).

Go ahead, do it when you're bored, or if you can put the pie down long enough.

Sounds like you're a friend of the owners, hence the support. I hope the BBB does get involved. Places like this make all shops look bad.

That shop is the cleanest,up to date and most honest shop in 50 mile radius. They go way out of there way to make things right if a accident happens. When your dealing with hundreds of customers accidents happen.
You cant make a claim to the BBB for what you think .Your mom would have to make the call and you havent said she is mad_JUST YOU.
This post was started by a COMPETITOR like most posts on this weak website. I wish you would tell of these magical auto repair shops in citrus county that do not tell people about things that could potentially make their car unsafe or break down.Whats wrong with telling someone experienced technical advise about their car like belt condition-fluid levels-brake condition-tire condition -- You say NO if the offer a service and feel happy that a insured shop with trained and uniformed technicians did your oil change.
The*Pit* alone is a safer-faster way of inspecting someones car !!! I hate when some untrained street clothes punk gets in my car pulls it on to some contraption of a lift and bends up the bottom of my car just for a oil change.
Funny thing I really like about the place is you can watch them all working unlike every other shop that blocks you off in a room .Scallys has this huge glass window so you can watch them work.

In closing even in a small town Ill bet if all the customers that ever went there logged on and posted it would be a 1000 pages of really nice comments and praise. and damn good pie.

funny 18 years of going to scallys and this is the worst ive ever heard about them.

they are great people and all my neighbors and friends all go there.

attacking a business on the internet is the most cowardly ,unAmerican way of getting problems solved.

so far everything except the nice things look like lies brought on by JELOUSY.

if you have a issue with Robert or Jeannie please go in there they will sort it out .

Scallys is the best auto repair shop in the area and they are family people that treat people like family.

Honesty is the best policy!
and Karma is right .

I remember when the only had a little bay and a few tow trucks.
They must be doing something right to get so large.

They are a little more expensive than the dirty shops but you get what you pay for .No other shop will send a nice clean tow truck promptly if you have a problem.
