As a veteran of the National Guard and US Navy I cannot imagine a smoke-free military, but hey...I can't imagine homosexuals carrying a M16 and wearing cammies either!
I'd much rather have someone in the foxhole next to me lighting up a fag, than having a fag light me up!
All jokes aside, like the article said, Gen MacArthur with his pipe, cigs in the C-Rats, smoking lamps on ships...what are they going to take away from us next?
All I can say to non-smokers, is good for you, god bless you but leave me alone!
Second hand smoke...please, step outside and take a breath of fresh air, it's worse than 2nd hand smoke!

This will be a draft dodgers dream. No more college or Canadian trips needed. "Your blood test shows nicotine, not qualified".

Do you really believe the draft will ever be reinstated?

Uh...if they grandfather this in, I suggest that the same number crunchers that are pushing for the ban be the ones to approach the smoking soldiers and ask them to put them out.

Smoking weed (pot, reefer, hemp, maryjane) goes on all over the place. You can find it on any base, camp, in Iraq, Afganistan, everywhere.

The lungs are fine considering the amount that I bench press everyday and powerlift, not to mention running.

SHS Is NOTHING compared to the negative foods most people eat today.

What you seem to be saying is, since your lungs seem fine, and you are able to take deep breaths, smoking for you is not really that bad? Sounds to me like smoke is now able to get down deeper into your lungs. Bummer!! Second hand smoke is harmful for everyone around and 3rd had smoke is very harmful for young children and pets. I agree with you that most people are causing major harm to themselves by not eating healthy foods.

Well actually I didn't start until I dated you. Like smoking I found it much more satisfying and appealing.

Hey pappy, your wayy old school way of thinking has died with most of your oldtimer friends!
The popularity that smoking once had, has long since gone away, and the active duty military now is 70% non-smoking!

Side note...its mostly M4 nowadays!

I'd feel a lot better knowing that the people who can launch a nuclear device from a submarine are smoking rather than hallucinating on Chantix.
