Is our deputies working as security officers off duty but using our county tax money? Has the Sheriff opened a security company at the tax player's expense? A jailer told me that some deputies are working at Wagner's private housing on Fredonia mountain. If this is for real, why can't the rest of us get off duty deputies to set on our roads? Can anyone tell me some more about this?

Lands Corp. of TN is the company that is paying these Police Officers! NO County tax money is being used AT ALL. If anyone wants security on their roads by Off Duty officers and can afford to pay for it out of pocket, just bring your request to the Sheriffs attention!!!

Go to Anycity, USA and you will find offduty police and deputies working as security guard/bouncer/loss prevention. They do this everywhere.
The real issue here is why do so many officer/deputies across the US work two jobs. It's because they get paid crap for wages. This isn't the Sherrif or Chiefs fault, unfortunately they are paid by tax payers for their primary job and we don't like to pay higher taxes. So they have to get two jobs to make ends meet.

Lastly, perfect timing on your part for this forum. A police officer in Chattanooga was burried yesterday because he loved his job so much and knew he could die doing and he did. Almost every law enforcement officer I know in Chattanooga has a 2nd job. Guess what other profession have a lot of people working a 2nd job to make ends meet? Teachers.
Yet another reason not to like teachers and cops: Not only do they have extremely difficult jobs and get payed crap for doint it, they are also hard workers. How many of us with "normal" jobs have to work a 2nd job to make ends meet? Some of us, but let's face it, they are under paid for the job they do and are willing to do.

A quick disclaimer. We owe our educators and first responders a lot more than they get, but that still doesn't give local law eenforcement a pass with the local ladies. That S--t needs to stop.

at least they have a job if they dont like their job let them quit im sure there are millions of unemployed people that would take their job to keep from losing their house and to be able to put food on their table

I have worked 2 jobs for 13 years a full-time and a part-time. That's just how it is! I am not a deputy nor a teacher, I want to pay my bills and we do not live an extravagant life style. So respect the law and all professions and if there is any wrong going on report it to the proper authorities.

If it was that easy to report wrong doing it would be great. However, they are to many people with there head buried in the sand to do that everyone is always a lier but them!!! Time to wake up!

The Fredonia Mountain Nature Resort is now owned by a group from Vision Homes in Chattanooga (the builders who worked on the Extreme Home Makeover house in Chattanooga). They hired the off-duty sheriffs. As it is a private arrangement, what the sheriff's make is their own business but I would rather see our police officers out in the community and making money in the county than some security company based out of town (which is what had happened before).

The Wagner family still owns property on the mountain but they are no longer involved with the management of the development.

No problem with this situation, but I think it would be a good idea for our "On Duty Officers" to sit at the community center and see how many drivers coming from JH Lewis road fail to stop before entering Fredonia Rd.

The citizens need to sit at the community center and see how many officers never stop at the stop sign but what are we going to do to them they are the Law or they make as they go along

To Lynn cagle. Does this company pay for the gas that these deputies use when they drive our county cop cars to do this security job? I think not! We the tax payers pay for this gas and with gas being over $3.50 per gallon it adds up fast. Why dont this company give them a car to use? I know why they dont. Because we the tax payers pay for the gas and the insurance and the up keep on these cars. Why does these deputies have a sheriff's dept. Uniform on and not a security uniform? And how does SRO Deputy Hobbs work there from 6 p.m. till 6 a.m. then work all day at the schools? He must be sleeping somewhere. Is he sleeping on county time or security time? Someone is being cheated.

This is a conflict of interest when they are there working are they police officers are security guards. If they are security guards they do not need to be in police uniform are driving county cars that the tax payers pay for. Many years ago a similar incident in marion county involving the sheriff and a mining company went to federal court and got in some major trouble.Perhaps this needs to happen here!!!tax payers pay enough.

I have lived all over the U.S. this is accepted everywhere and it proves to be an effective deterrent to crime.

you may have lived all over the U.S. but other areas have certain guidelines that must be followed sequachie county does not have those guidelines in place! You do not use county equipment to do private work.Example city worker off duty comes dig your water line up with city equipment that is taxpayer money bought the gas bought the equipment! This needs to be looked at there is a fine line here.

Really it is not a conflict of interest. Police Officers work as security guards as a second job all over the U.S. But yes there is a problem with them wearing county uniforms driving county cars. If they are going to work a secong job that job needs to have their own uniforms and own means of transportation. By them wearing county uniforms and driving county cars it does make them look like they are doing this on county time.
