DUNLAP, SEQUATCHIE COUNTY, TN (WRCB)- A new company will bring 150 jobs to Sequatchie County.

Dunlap Mayor Dwain Land says, "Business brings business. Opportunities bring more opportunities."

That's the business motto Land follows when it comes to bringing industry to his city.

He's within days of inking a multi-million deal with German-based Mann+Hummel.

They build parts for American-based car companies.

Leaders won't confirm whether Chattanooga's Volkswagen is one of those companies.

The plans have been over a year in the making.

Land says, "There have been so many hours and people that have put time into this company and getting them here."

Mann+Hummel promise to pump $15 million into the old Seymour Tubing plant creating some 150 jobs.

It's an economic booster shot for an area that has leaned towards double digit unemployment numbers all year.

Betty Miller says, "That will be good about the jobs because there are so many people out of work right here in Dunlap."

What's unique about the location is this is the same plant that let go of about 90 employees years ago.

Mayor Land says, "When you get 150 nice jobs, it's large. It's huge. You can't put it into words. You can't put it into words."

The final deal should be signed by the end of November.

Today Dunlap City Mayor Dwain Land got to let out a secret he's been keeping for a year.
A new business is moving in, bringing with it a $15M investment and 150 jobs.

"The job opportunity for so many families, I'm just ecstatic . There's just no other word that I can put in place that needs to be there because there's been a lot of people work on this for over a year," said Mayor Land.

For a small town that's managed to hang on during the economic slump, it's huge news.

"This by no means will fix our economic downturn in Dunlap and Sequatchie County, but it is a huge, huge, large step in the right direction," Land said.

Dunlap resident Cynthia Hobbs agreed. "It's sad when you go through a town and you see different shops that have been there for years close. But then it's wonderful to see people come in and take those buildings and start up new shops."

And that's exactly what MANN+HUMMEL plans to do. The mayor tells NewsChannel9, the new company will move into the building where Seymour Tubing was until they closed in 2009. He says the fact that they won't have to build from the ground up means people will be working here much sooner.

"That's huge. That's just huge. Because anybody that does have a job its usually not local. They usually have to travel to Chattanooga just to go to work so that's gonna be great," said Dave Anderson, who owns Backdraft Donuts.

The German based company has a plant in Michigan. They design and produce parts for the automotive and industrial markets, an industry that's already booming in the Tennessee Valley.

"That's wonderful and maybe with that there'll be other companies that come because we need other fast food restaurants in town and stuff to attract tourists from different counties," said .

It's the same hope Land has for the area.

"Business brings business and with this opportunity, there's gonna be more," he said.

Mayor Land hopes the company will begin moving over the next few months and expects that hiring will start in early spring.

These jobs say they compete with chatt wages, yet they only pay between 8 to 10 dollars an hr. In chatt factory workers get paid starting at around 13 an hr. this job will come here to exploit our poor county.

Did Dawain ask how much they will pay our citizens?

I will keep my factory job in chatt where with a GED and after one year I make 14 an hr.

Why would the pay be better than $12.50 when they don't pay that in Michigan? Plus they are no competetion in Dunlap either? I see maybe for actual techncian jobs for not for laborer.

They are hiring 15 people to start with. Those 15 people will go to Michigan to train for 6 weeks. These jobs are technical jobs. I believe that it will be a year and a half before all 150 people get hired.
