Its the same in Jamestown as it is in FREDONIA Coaches kid is automatically on select or all star teams. Parents sit in the stands and bitch and complain about the coaches ( who may not be the best but do try), kids lack of playing time, blah blah blah. IF the kids are having fun great if not try soccer or swimming Parents seem to have very high expectations for what they get for a couple hundred bucks

My son played for NCCYHA several years ago before going to play travel hockey in Buffalo. I thought NCCYHA was a great organization with a group of VOLUNTEERS who do their best to make sure it is great for all of their players.

If you're looking for more competition and more ice time, try a AA or AAA travel team out of Erie or Buffalo. They practice/play/travel 4-5 days/week and you pay close to $2000 to just play.

But, it's the same everywhere - it doesn't matter if you're at an A center, a B center or a C center, whether you are part of Western New York Hockey or Empire West. People are the same no matter where you go. The grass is never greener. No matter how much you want to believe that it is.

Hockey mom you seem to have strong hate for NCCYHA. My guess is you are one of those parents that yells at your kid when they get off the ice for not doing well enough. Let you kid have fun wherever he plays. You can't always be a winner.

Wow, it was all about the coach's son, who he was related to, and worked with. My kids had a great time at NCCYHA, BUT DID'NT know about politics at that age.

There are politics with any organization you belong to. NCCYHA is no different than AA or AAA organizations out there. Just with AA or AAA, you may not here all the politics because they are larger.

NCCYHA is a great experience for kids. That's what matters. No one (coach, parent, ref) is perfect. The kids love it. People need to chill, let the kids play and learn and have fun. It's about FUN and leadership and team lessons. It's NOT about selects or winning. The coaches are in a tough spot. If they let the kids have equal ice time, people complain about the team not winning. If they play to win, people complain about unfair ice times. The people who complain are the problem. Buncha wound-tight parents need to see the glass half-filled. We've got it GOOD here. It's not that expensive, the kids play a lot, and some divisions even have a B team for tournaments so all parents can get drunk at tournament hotels. What's not to like?

I am very proud to be a part of the NCCYHA..We had over 300 people at Steele Hall to see the alumni who truly loved this league come back to play like they did when they were kids. They came from all over the country and are proud to once and always be called Steelers.. The program is going strong.. Those who criticize are generally those who have lots to say but no will to get off their butts and help out to change what they feel is wrong...

It is a great organization, that shall be and always should be for the kids first and foremost. Parents will be parents whether it is at Little League or Midget League or Hockey but somehow the kids prevail over their parents whining and sarcasm. Its tough to be a coach, long hours usually after or before work and how many of us went up to the coaches to thank them for their time? I wish I had a dozen kids to put into the league it was that enjoyable. Sorry AMY i have to disagree

I love NCCYHA and hockey. It's an amazing group. Just wish we had more ice around here. It's sad that Dunkirk/Fredonia residents have to put their own rinks in their yards and there isn't an outside community rink anywhere.
