Dunkirk is stuck in the 50's. All they think about is the clubs, the bars, street dances. It will never be any different. Old world thinking, hot temperments, behind the door politics, and self serving mentality. What you see is what you got. Trust me, it will never be any better. Already the one good thing that came about (the Boardwalk) is going down the tube. Only ones making money here is the bar owners.

Interesting topic. To me, I would have to say its attitude. Theres an unbelievable stench of negativity in every aspect of this city.

Well Leonard, is it any wonder! I cannot see much to get excited about these days. Now the one bright star in the sky (Boardwalk) is in jeopardy. The stench has been here for a very long time, perhaps even before you arrived on Dunkirk soil. It's been 23 yrs. for me and I cannot say I've seen much happening to get excited about. Years pass quickly, I am getting old and don't think much exciting is going to happen. Thank God the kids got away and are doing well. No future here.

I agree.

Most of the problems can be traced back to this for sure.

you people are idiots. do you think dunkirk is the only area with low income housing? virtually every city, town, and village has low income housing and many of them overcome it.

lets blame low income housing for our problems so we don't have to blame ourselves for our situation. want to know what happened to dunkirk? a failure to respond to a changing world and not adjusting to the changing size of the city.

If you are relying on Jeff's so-called plans to save the waterfront you are in trouble.

You are right, but so is Donny. This Gambino guy has seems to be taking on alot. He either has mounds of cash or he's building a house of cards. Time will tell which it is. I pray everything he is doing pays off for him and the city, as well as the Village of Fredonia.

The first real problem to bring all is not low income housing, that is nothing short of absurd nonsense. The first real problem is the city is multi-ethnic, but fails to bring all human resources together. I won't elaborate on the racist comments on topix about people of color and Puerto Riquenos. Ahhhh Puerto Rico is a territory of The United States BTW. Second problem is no family sustaining jobs. Third is the GED program in Dunkirk has no use for anyone non-white, people are made to feel unwelcome, justa sk anyone who went there. Fourth, the entire community not just da white people have NEVER come together to solve how to help Dunkirk to improve. if you really wanna know why: "segregataion now segregation foever-Governor George Corley Wallace. Watch as the city dies as yall hold on to your racist and old ways, just sit and watch. Any place can be rejuvinated but only when the entire community comes together and works together.

Sorry I have to disagree. The biggest problem was the lose of jobs. Reasons are many, high taxes, tough union work forces, high cost of labor and insurance. Osha and the EPA. Jobs first moved to other states with lower labor costs and lower taxes and more business friendly. Once they established in other states the state gov't got greedy. So keep in business and to continue to profit they went to mexico, then to japan, then to china and the list goes on. Dunkirk has 4 ward, they need 4 wards like they need a hoe in the head. To many politicians, to much bullwhip. Time to get rid of them all and hire a good business manager. Well that's a start. Low income housing came because of the farm labor and then the job lose.
