With so many bars in Dunkirk, name your favorite (past and/or present), and why(Dunkirk ONLY please). Mine:Strychalski's (sp?) because of cost and stories told by old man Strychalski.

Halas Hotel (@ Beaver & 2nd St.). Good Polish food (Golumski's (pigs-in-the-blanket), Czerina (duck's blood soup), Borsche (beet soup), Kieska (sausage made with pig's brains), etc. Halas' also has inexpensive living qtrs. w/shared toilet, bath & shower, and it's close proximity and walking distance to Lake Erie's waterfront makes Halas' the best choice while visiting this diversified community. C'mon down, Sofie will treat you just like mom used to do.

Don't think I recall Perry's ? Remember King's before Richie took it over? As long as we had $ the old lady did'nt care we were 16 -17 yrs. old. Norm's Brass Rail was fun when I hung out with my Forth Ward A.G.S. frat buddies. We would sneek in the Dog House on Sat. night and crash a wedding, just to drink free beer! We had to dress up a bit to look the part.

Is Spooky really Vince Vaughniewski or Owen Wilsoniewski?

I also remember Norm's, a nice, clean neighborhood bar...persistant pool league champs. It's a shame what happened to that place, the next owner(s) ran in right into the ground.

Harry "the Hat" Hallquist also ran the Fieldhouse out of the old Bros. II bar (Rusty & Marco Val). Then it was completely remodled and turned into Scallywags (Rusty, Marco, JT & Tony Rutski). Then it became BCC (Lucius Buchanan). Since then, the building was razed, and this empty lot has been 4 sale for many years, still waiting for someone to build on it. BTW, Dk. taxpayers are STILL waiting for a return on the $300K "investment" that Mayor Maggie so generously gave to Civilette for his "rat-traps" on Main St...and how many years ago was that?

Doc sure has a good memory. Doc , where was The Lamb's Club? My older brother was there one night with a bunch of guy's from 2nd. shift Altech, the lights went out, my brother and the other "white guys' thought " this is it, were going to get a ass whoopin'" but it just was a blown fuse.

Lamb's Club was on lower Washington Ave (right around the corner from the Peanut Cafe'). If your bro couldn't remember where it was, then I guess he's lucky that his buddies took care of him, unless they're the one's who brought him in there in that condition? I hope you never went in there, Spooky, cuz if someone called out your name, there probably would've been trouble (wink).

Spike's Dailey's descendants have a copyright infringement lawsuit pending (just kidding). Shaun must've decided against using names like Hammernick's, Palais Royale, Pan American, Rangelite, Harbor Inn, Beachwood (Luigi's).

I could think of a name or two, something that has a waterfront, marina, ship or boat theme, but who knows why he chose that name. Back to Doc, my brother had a friend named Rick Waclawski who every one called "Spook", he had a Bro Ron, who also was called that.If I called my bro, he would remember Lambs, I just could not think were it was. P.S., my old man knew Buddy Kuzdale when he ran the Peanut Cafe'.

I remember Buddy Kuz...actually I knew his wife Joan (House of Carpets, Atrium) and their kids better. I never knew Buddy ran the Peanut, I thought he was a truck driver? Tony Spera ran that joint for years, then the Jusko's Bros. ran it for awhile. I may be wrong, but I think the Jusko's may have leased it from Ozzie Ginley (after Tony retired), and when the Jusko's were done with it, it went back to Ozzie. Ozzie could've made a killing down there when the hotel was being built across the street if he would've served hot lunches and cold beers for those const. workers (at lunchtime & after work), but apparently Ozzie was too busy with his "real" job at Cassadaga Job Corp. Lots of good times down at Peanut, Jusko's started the "Drink n' Drown." (you paid $5 and drank all night!). Towards the end there, Mike wasn't paying his gas bills, so the heat was turned off, but we still went down there.

Remember "Pike Desmond" who tended bar at the Dunkirk Hotel, and "Hotel Mel" who's name was really Dave Lancaster? I was just a kid when I'd make the rounds with my Dad, and get a haircut by 'ol Leo at the hotel too.
