God bless our Police Officers for fighting this battle with the drug dealers. They need all the help they can get and it appears that our Governor and his cronies don't feel the same way !!!

seriously? do you even see what a waste the "war on drugs" is? billions spent every year, for what? does that keep these drugs off the street? no, drugs have become a bigger business so there are more people into it. drugs become more available, cheaper, that is all we are doing with this.

one good thing i noticed, no marijuana arrests =) finally realized it isn't bad at all

I can't believe these blockhead officers like bentley think it does any good to lock these people up for years and have them come out worse criminals than when they went in! we need strong drug treatment and counseling with hefty jail terms if they don't successfully complete. try and turn them into tax paying working citizen's instead of useless bags of shit that we have to pay for!

re-read the article. there are seven names. just keep in mind that this is the Observer and they aren't the greatest when it comes to forming paragraphs.

Thanks to Gov. Patterson, this issue is going to be harder than ever for the officers to combat. I commend the STRDTF and all the police agencies who are working hard to arrest drug dealers and fight the war on drugs. In my opinion drug dealers should be held to a higher accountability. Such as premeditated murder. They make a living off of killing people and it should be viewed as such. Too bad Gov. Patterson has a soft place in his heart for drug dealers--making NY the place they will soon flock to so they don't find themselves in as much trouble as they would elsewhere. Also, making our state an unsafe and dangerous place to raise our children by making drugs more accessible. He's blind in more ways than one!!

I think it would be a little smarter to try and do something about the source of the problem. if your boat is taking on water do you just keep bailing buckets over the side, or do you try and find a way to plug the hole? I don't think the old way of thinking is working here because the boat keeps taking on more and more water!

Here's what the cops SHOULD do. As fast as they find out where the drugs are being sold, park about 6 cop cars on the street at either end, and in front, and just have coffee. Make a lot of "harassment" type searches and ID checks of anyone in the area. Shop closed! If they move, do it again. Cleans up neighborhood, puts dealers out of business, and jail expenses and court costs are down. Work like a charm.

Good idea, probably expensive and that is what all this shit is about. If prisons were inexpensive and the economy in great shape, who would really give a shit if we locked them up forever. IT all boils down to dollars and cents, and NYS is going to take the cheap way out.
