Trolley may make way from Fredonia to city pier

The early stages of talks about using some form of public transportation between downtown Fredonia and the Dunkirk pier have begun, according to Fredonia Village Mayor Stephen Keefe.

No it's not, the trolley can't go 20 miles without breaking down, gets 7 mpg on an 70's vintage gas engine. It's unsafe at any speed.

I could possibly see this as a benefit if there was a huge people drawing event and parking were an issue-like the Fair. Other than that, how many people are going to actually take a trolly to the Dunkirk Pier? Also, take into account students have left for the summer.

Anything to bring additional people to the City waterfront is a good idea, BUT, if its the Fredonia trolley passengering Fredonia people back and forth, why would/should Dunkirk chip in on the costs? For example, if Silver Creek (or Westfield or Cassadaga, you get the picture) wanted to bring a short bus (im sure that will get some asinine comments) of residents to the pier every Thursday, thats their business, let them pay for it...plus, as mentioned in the article, there are insurance liability costs, so if Dunkirk now partners with Fredonia on the costs, Dunkirk would now be liable in case something happens on/in that trolley? Does any event (Bills/Sabres/Concerts/festiva ls/etc) pay other municipalities transportation costs to bring their residents to them? Heck no! Dont get me wrong, im all for partnering with Fredonia on Intergovernmental issues, but in general, why is Fredonias idea Dunkirks expense?

Because Dunkirk would benefit financially from it. I'm really surprised Fredonia even brought it up for discussion because theres NO benefit to Fredonia to do this. Also liability isn't always the excuse not to do something. Thats what insurance is for. As long as there is coverage for it, liabiity is not an issue.

This POS trolley cost money to run and if I remember it was NOT GOING TO COST TAXPAYERS 1 PENNY WRONG Mothball that death trap. It is probably easier to drive down and leave when you have had enough of the tattooed babes stuffed in 2 piece bikinis, dragging their coolers and 6 week old kids around and o ya gotta love the smoking.

Since Fredonia is going to bring it's citizens to Dunkirk, than shouldn't Dunkirk be informed when armed robbers come from Fredonia? Shouldn't their names be published like every other criminal? Two kids in Gowanda were arrested for burglary and they were only 17 with their names posted. Why not Fredonia's 18 year old armed robber? If a Dunkirk resident did an armed robbery in Fredonia his name would be all over the place. So, somebody has to know, OUT the S.O.B.!!!!!

I know who it is. It's actually a Dunkirk person that used to live by me who must now be flopping down in Fredonia. The virus of scumbags is spreading across the whole area. I agree with you. Not that any of the little dirtbags actually care if their names are in the paper, but at least we'd have a warning who they were if they lived near us. I'm not posting the name because sure enough the little bastard would find out I did it and sue me.

I agree, Fredonia is toast. Many are in denial about this. Riff-raff coming into Fredonia is on the rise and has been the trend for the last few years. It's only going to get a lot worse with the worsening economics around here

All this tells me is another typical statement from a skunkirk person heard from. The reason for the crime increasing in Fredonia is all the (SCUMBAGS) from Dunkirk moving to Fredonia true fact. As far as Fredonia names investing on the water front, it's simple. No one in skunkirk has had enough fortitude to devlop the water front. So it takes someone from Fredonia to do it. Imagine that?????

This one has me scratching my head. I feel the people of Fredonia may have some people try the trolly once and that will be it. It will be a novelty item and will not be self sustaining.

We live in a McDonalds world where we are used to getting where we're going, do our thing, and be on our way. People will not wait for the trolly and will consider it an inconvenience to if they miss it and have to wait for its next arrival. Couple that with the potential of a breakdown. I can already forecast the meltdowns people will have if they are "stuck" in either town due to a mechanical failure.

However, if they do proceed, a route should include a stop at the college so Dunkirk youth can participate in ice skating etc. This was presented as Fredonia people coming to Dunkirk, but I think you will see the reverse happening as well.

If you want to talk crazy,I've envisioned a light rail system continuously running along Rt 60, Through Fredonia, down Brigham, down LakeShore Blvd back to Rt 60.

Our future growth depends on regionalism, cooperation, and a pooling of resources. I think if they found a way to fund it, this could be the start of our communities working more closely together.

Lastly, the negative comments aimed at either community our unnecessary and do not foster any sort of goodwill.
