I went to TOPS today and at the checkout I stood behind a man either in his 40s or 50s. Clearly he was a war vet. This man spent a $171 on a whole bunch of food that included steak and lobsters. I realized he eats better than me. I work 50 hrs a week. He paid using an EBT Benefits card. I'm so sick of the free loaders. Get an education, get a real job so my taxes don't have to support your pathetic life.

Food Stamp Use Rises As Employers Refuse To Pay Living Wages

Recent report shocked the nation by exposing the fact that one in five Americans are currently using food stamps. But what has been discussed less is who is the new face of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and why there has been such a dramatic increase over the last few years.

Conservatives will have you believe that rise in numbers is due to people “scamming the system,” pointing to instances of fraud on college campuses as if it was the main factor in the 34 percent rise in the last two years.

Instead, the new face of food stamps isn’t college students or even so much the unemployed. According to Reuters, 40 percent of those accepting food stamps are wage earners who simply do not make enough money to pay all of their bills.

About forty percent of food stamp recipients are, like [mother and Wal-Mart cashier supervisor Genna] Saucedo, in households in which at least one member of the family earns wages. Many more could be eligible: the government estimates one in three who could be on the program are not.

“If they’re working, they often think they can’t get help. But people can’t support their families on $10,$11,$12 an hour jobs, especially when you add transport, clothes, rent.” said Carolyn McLaughlin, executive director of BronxWorks, a social services organization in New York.

As businesses continue to bring in record profits while cashing in and asking for even more tax breaks, they continue to take advantage of programs paid for by the rest of the country’s taxpayers to support workers who they refuse to pay a living wage to. Regular families are subsidizing programs like SNAP so businesses can continue to reap even larger rewards.

This crisis that has caused so many people to need these programs that they aren’t sustainable in their current form. What’s the Republican solution? It’s not to ask the businesses to pay more in taxes, or encourage them to raise wages, both of which would help the struggling economy by giving people back some ability to spend on goods again. No, it’s to cut the programs themselves.

It’s milk the middle class until they have nothing left, then cut off the lower class from assistance when it’s out of money. All to protect the rich.

Blaming Obama Care is ludacris. Food stamps and assistance has been around since 1939. Many working people qualify for them because of the low wages they earn. Don't assume that person in the grocery store checkout line is a freeloader and jobless.

Please then tell me why hiring is so dismal and unemployment is so high since you seem to ignore the real reason.

I guess you might need to do some more research. Because of LOW WAGES some people QUALIFY for FOOD STAMPS.

Don't assume that someone using food stamps is jobless or is a free loader. Their wages are so low that they can get food stamps. Some workers at Walmart get food stamps.

I have no issue with people who "need" assistance but what does your statement have to do with ABUSE? Also since you missed my previous post I'll ask again-

My statement is in defense of those how qualify for them but most people automatically think because the user has food stamps then he or she is abusing them.If they want to buy steaks they are welcome to. They only can get so many dollars per month and if they want to use them like that they might be short of food come the end of the month.

As for why hiring is so dismal ? I believe that might be old news and changing IMO.

Actually it's not old news,I will not hire until I see what effects the AHCA act will have on me and that is what I hear from my peers as well. Many of the rules and regulations within the act are still being written, did you know that?
As far as abuse goes, please tell me what you think this is? It is widespread as well!

There are hundreds of other abuses so take your own advice and do some research.

To answer your question yes it does partially effect world wide unemployment. If you need a explanation of why I say that based on how our country effects the global economy I'll be happy to provide that to you. Keep in mind that no other country, none, imports or exports more than us.

Not when they buy steaks and lobster and then walk out the door and sell them to get money for "other" things. Happens all the time,go to the Tops or Walmart store and see it with your own eyes! Not all do it is true but many do.

Higher premiums. Americans who purchase coverage in the new Obamacare exchanges will find that health insurance is still very expensive. American Enterprise Institute resident scholar Scott Gottlieb, MD, explains,“For a family of four, premiums on even one of the lower priced ‘silver’ options could still cost more than $15,000 annually on the exchanges.” A family’s income might exclude them from subsidies but not be high enough to pay $15,000 for Obamacare’s government-approved insurance.“A family of four earning $90,000 annually takes home about $60,000 after local, state, and federal taxes. If they lose workplace coverage, and move onto the exchanges, they could find themselves spending as much as 25 percent of the family’s take home pay for an average policy ($15,000 for the ‘silver’ plan).”
Rising health care costs. As premiums and overall health care costs continue to rise, middle-class families, including those receiving a subsidy, will be left paying more. Beginning in 2019, Obamacare’s cost-containment strategy for the exchanges is to hold the total cost of the subsidies to 0.504 percent of GDP. Charles Blahous, a Medicare trustee, concludes that “this limitation would likely cause the federal subsidies to grow less rapidly over the long term than the cost of health care and thus require low-income individuals in the exchanges to shoulder a steadily increasing percentage of their health costs.”
More government control of health care. Obamacare transfers massive authority over to the Secretary of Health and Human Services and expands the role of government in delivering care and coverage. This huge expansion of government’s role in health means that, by 2020, more than half of all Americans will be dependent on the federal government for health care and government bureaucrats will be in charge of deciding what you can and cannot buy.
If President Obama is serious about “fighting for what matters to middle class families,” he should start by repealing his own health care law.

My father worked 7 to 3 on his regular job and then from 4 to 12 he worked security. On the weekends he pumped gas for a friend who owned a gas station. AND, he still made time for Mom and us kids. Now that's a REAL man!! Mom kept house and tended a garden, sewed, baked, etc. She was a REAL woman. Dad said he'd rather die than go on the welfare system. Mom said she'd never let somebody else raise her kids. There was one car, one TV and everybody was happy! Try it people!!
