During during an appearance Sunday on Meet the Press.

Despite his support for Obama, Powell said,“I’m still a Republican,” but he delivered a prolonged criticism of the Republican Party, rebuking the hawks in the party.“They’ve lost two elections. The American people have made it clear that they are not particularly interested in finding new conflicts to get into.”

“I think what the Republican Party needs to do now is to take a very hard look at itself” and at the attitude of some Republicans toward ethnic minorities, he said, accusing unnamed Republicans of “intolerance” and “(looking) down at minorities.”

You’ve got to think first about what’s the party actually going to represent,” Powell said.“If it’s just going to represent the far right wing of the political spectrum, I think the party is in difficulty. I’m a moderate, but I’m still a Republican.”

Powell defended Clinton’s role in the lead up to and response after the Benghazi attack, and the Republican conceded the situation in Benghazi “could’ve happened to anyone.”

I think the last sentence in your first paragraph is not being heeded by the President. Ya think Powell might be at a loss to explain that blunder? http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/01/14/us... Stick to sportscasting.

Can you please explain to me, when I did a search on the Fox News site using the search terms "Colin Powell Benghazi", nothing shows up.(see below)

Some of you posters claim Fox is a news source.
Maybe they are filtering out things they don't agree with instead of letting their readers/listeners decide.
Certainly not telling it like it is.
As I said,stick to the sportscasting. http://nation.foxnews.com/benghazi-gate/2013/...

While you guys argue over where it appeared, you are missing the most important part. Powell ripped the failing GOP.

Powell has many valid points and is what the Republican party should be or should work towards being. If they would listen to Powell or Chris Christie just a bit they might have a party to be proud of.

I have said it before unless the GOP changes its ways they will continue to circle the toilet bowl.

Oh really? When you have a moment take a peek at the national debt and try and remember who told you it was going to happen. What did Obama say during the 08 campaign about raising the debt ceiling? Do you remember or should we post a video clip to jog your memory. Remember that Obama(he is a democrat) said health care will be more affordable now that we have the "Affordable Health Care Act" in place. Anything else you wish to have us swallow as the truth from those who punish the producers in this country. Oh and now Obama is getting us involved in Mali but that's probably the fault of George Bush right? You still haven't got ole howie off the hook yet. You might also try to help your good friend gusinski with what he posted. That is so funny and classically dumb its hard to imagine he can even log onto a computer.

Colin Powell is a man. Why do white racists get mad when it is pointed out that they are white racists? Why don't they just change, instead of getting angry?

Perhaps if Colin Powell (and the rest of the left) gave us the names of the people he's accusing as racists, and provided some examples of racist behavior, those people would be able to "change". As it is he's just another in a long line of liberals who tar with a broad brush; for whom the severity of the charge is far more important than the evidence provided. See: Harry Reid, Teddy Kennedy, et al.

Powell did give names and examples. I suggest you do some of your own research on the internet.

There's also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party,' Powell told 'Meet the Press' host David Gregory.'What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities.'

He cited two instances of racially-charged attacks that bothered him, and he said, other black Americans.

Last fall, former Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Obama's explanation for the terrorist attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, amounted to 'shuck an jive'- term that is often associated with lying behavior among slaves.

Powell also took issue with Republican New Hampshire Gov John Sununu calling Obama 'lazy' after his poor showing at the first presidential debate last fall.

'He didn't say he was slow, he was tired, he didn't do well; he said he was "lazy,"' Powell said.'Now, it may not mean anything to most Americans, but to those of us who are African Americans, the second word is "shiftless," and then there's a third word that goes along with it.'

You are advising others to do research on the internet? How funny after your blunder. Powell was brought to prominence during three consecutive Republican administrations I remind you. Saying someone is lazy and using it as a "racial card" is ridiculous. You and your friends are grasping at straws.

That's my point. Despite General Powell's protestations, neither of the examples above are racist -- unless you're bound and determined to label others racist no matter how threadbare your evidence.

Victor Davis Hanson accurately dissects this tempest in a teapot. Correctly pointing out not just Powell's personal hypocrisy, but also the absurdity of his claims in the face of liberal behavior far more outrageous than what he bleated about last week.

"While “shuck and jive” is a silly term to use — although liberals from current press secretary Tim Carney to Chris Mathews have felt no hesitation in employing it, and its origins and exact meaning are mired in controversy — it was Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo in 2008 (“You can’t shuck and jive at a press conference.”), not Sarah Palin, who was the first major political figure to use the phrase in criticism of Barack Obama — to the apparent silence of General Powell at the time.

Stereotyping, polarization, and racial insensitivity have been frequent in the last three years. Yet when one collates the explicit instances (e.g.,“they cling to guns and religion,”“nation of cowards,”“punish our enemies,”“put y’all in chains,” etc.), Democrats seem at least as culpable as Republicans in their indiscretions. As far as direct slurs of African-Americans in the context of the Obama candidacy, there were two infamous instances — one a reported characterization of Barack Obama by Senator Harry Reid (“a light-skinned African American with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one”), and another by Senator Joe Biden (“I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy”)— both insensitive stereotypes, as far as commensurate public commentary goes, ignored by Powell at the time. Were Cuomo, Biden, and Reid seen in 2008 as symptomatic of a darker liberal racism within the Democratic party?"
