The guy's name is Gerry. Please continue to pray for him. As of yesterday morning he was conscious, but very delicate. I'll keep you guys posted with details.

On a side note, how redonkulous is it that the Dunkirk Observer didn't send one person to cover the Dunkirk Tri. This was a big DEAL!! I spoke with a person that drove 6 hours out of their way just to be here, there were over 100 participating athletes, even more LOCAL volunteers.
It's not like this was some sort of secret race. The Dunkirk Observer had posted a pre-race article about it a few weeks back and several reminders on the community calendar, so they knew that this was going on! Also, the results were right online, at score-this.com , the same FREAKING DAY!!!! Redonkulous Observer!!!! Maybe its time for you guys to start using your own Community Calendar! I mean, what's the point on having a Community Calendar if your faculty doesn't even bother looking at it? BTW there's not one single line about the Dunkirk Tri or the fact that someone was critically hurt!

Redonkulous Observer, Redonkulous!

<quoted text> "Sending a person to cover"? The Observer? You mean like actual reporting, not stalking Topix and such for news? You have got to be kidding! D'Agustino has totally trashed the Observer.
That doesn't make sense, how come circulation is up,advertising revenue is up,and on-line subscriptions are up. Can you explain that? I mean even your friend"gusinski" has an on-line subscription. how cool is that.

There were 2 differents rescue calls for cyclists. The one of Serval Street and one on Rt. 5 near Center Rd. Has anyone heard how the guy that flipped his bike is doing? He was incoherent with a leg fracture.

The observers motto: "Why ruin a good story with the truth?" I havent subscribed in years and dont miss it one bit, in fact the only good use for the paper is training puppies.

Well, the Observer managed to find room for not one but two articles on the triathalon in THURSDAY'S issue...one on the cyclist who rode into a pole and got hurt and then the results of the event. I know it might take a day to get the "official" results, but both articles should have been in long before today with nice photos of the athletes competing. This event (not the accident) was a positive thing for the area and really should have been a nice highlight of the paper. A piece in the Sunday issue on local area athletes would have also been a nice touch...and the Observer wonders why people don't subscribe and bash on them...

I couldn't agree with you more. Personally the Fredonia Farm festival is great and all, but it didn't bring people from out of state to town....

If anything merits immediate attention as "breaking, front page news" it's somebody wrecking his bike into a pole.

Didn't say "breaking, front page news" anywhere in my post. Yes, the accident (two per someone else on here) should have been on the front page--that is a no-brainer and was also stated by others on here. Why be redundant? The triathalon was something that was planned quite some time ago. It has the potential to bring people into the area. Yet, the paper again, drops the ball on covering and promoting positive things from the area. Redonkulous posted earlier about the paper printing minor notifications about the race. Was just expanding on that.

Enough about the Observer, their incompetent, over-rated, and everyone hates it. Good thing we have topix.
So moving on, please continue your prayers, Gerry is on his way to recovery. Every day he gets a bit stronger, he is now answering Docs questions with his eyes. However, he is having another surgery today so he's not completely out of the woods.

Please continue to pray for Gerry. To the doctor’s and family surprise, he made it over the weekend and continues fighting for his life! So please don’t stop those prayers!

Unfortunately the title of this thread has come to pass. Gary Grant died last evening due to the injuries sustained when he veered off course into the bus divider during this summer's TriDunkirk. Gary leaves behind a wife, 3 kids, and countless friends - among those the many swimmers he coached in the Buffalo area.

This is a sad day all around, as this type of accident is extremely rare in competition.. it's a tragic reminder to live life to the fullest every day you've got. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Aquarius

There simply aren't enough hours in the day today for you to do everything that's on your list, so concentrate on the priorities. Don't feel guilty about what's been left out and start to worry about it. This isn't an easy day because you're feeling pressured and anxious, so don't expect too much from yourself. There's less energy than usual, which doesn't help.
