Why have so many people not had the flu shot? Over 90% of the people we are seeing with flu like symptoms have not had the shot. There is no excuse for not getting it except for someone who in the past may have had an allergic reaction. People are saying they will get the flu if they get the shot and that is false, simply a "old wives" tale.

if you were a good nurse, you would know this years vaccine does not protect against the current strain. keep encouraging people to put things you have no information about in their bodies though. you are really doing a service.

Sorry you are being so misinformed as to the effectiveness of the vaccine. Contact your health care provider for the correct answer. The current vaccine available contains what is needed for over 90% of those inoculated and does protect against the current strain. Where you gathered information to the contrary is NOT correct. Good luck and I hope you do not get sick.

even the cdc says the flu vaccine as whole is only 59% effective. thanks for the super informed/educated/well thought out 90% number you made up though.

Nurse is sort of correct. the current vaccine provides some protection for 90% of the flu going around this year. That doesn't mean that 90% won't get the flu. Of those innoculated, perhaps 65% will be protected, but those who get the flu usually will have a less severe case of it.

There is a big difference between the 90% number(what is needed) and the 59% effective rate cited by the CDC. That is why we are seeing so many people with flu like symptoms, ill informed and biased opinions based on hearsay. We have only seen four people with full blown flu like symptoms who were innoculated. Two of those were innoculated only 5 days ago. In order for the vaccine to be fully effectice it requires between 10 and 14 days in your body. If you choose not to receive the vaccine that is your business however you do put at risk those you associate with. Please do not be a carrier, get the shot.

We also see people who do not wear seat belts and play with fire who are otherwise intelligent people. one of my co-workers told me not to post on this site but since I thought I might just help one person I did,I now understand what she meant.

I did get my shot and did have a reaction to it so i did not schedule the rest of my family to have one. However after hearing how bad some people are getting I have scheduled for the rest of my family to receive the shot. The side affects cant be as bad as the actual flu.

i am also mad at myself for posting here and this will be my last one. i don't doubt that you do a lot of good and mean well. you are participating in a failing system that is as much about keeping us sick as it is about keeping us healthy. i encourage you to do more research into the vaccine/medication side of your business before you volunteer your time to sell their drugs.

p.s. you did your good deed for the day. you reminded me not to come to topix

Thank you for your intelligent comment. Some people do have mild reactions however other members of your family may not. This particular strain is very powerful and if you do come down with it is very debilitating. As you quite correctly stated the side effects are nowhere near as severe as the flu itself.

Is it me or have we been on a flu craze since h1n1 it seems instead of less people getting sick year after year that more are reported as getting sick. shouldn't we build up our immune systems or isnt that profitable.Doesnt our immune system do basically what the shot is supposed to do build up immunity only rather that be narrowed by science it has a broader coverage. We are the most medicated of the industrialized countries and the sickest. A bunch of hot house flowers. What happens when the big one hits us and we have allowed a needle to be our immune system then what.Oh yeah check out aspirin and the spanish flu of 1918

No one has said the flu vaccine is 100% effective against certain strains. However this years vaccine DOES contain the n3n2 pieces and is effective although again not 100% effective depending on the person. The article you posted if you read it does not say this years vaccine will not work. Please do not try to educate people about something you are not trained in. People should get the vaccine period. The overwhelming majority of people being seen in our ER have NOT received the current vaccine OR only have had it administered within the past week. You can stop down and do your own survey if you wish but since I doubt you were inoculated I would strongly advise against it. We have some very sick people showing up. http://www.observertoday.com/page/content.det...

The nightly news said this years vaccine is, at the most, only 62% effective. No thanks.

Thanks for your post(s) which were very professional. You now know why your co-worker advised against your posting here. Some people will dispute well intended and professional advice just to dispute the advice despite overwhelming evidence by doctors and medical pros such as yourself. You know the old saying,"you can lead a horse to water"----

Keep that shot there Nurse and all those other BS vaccines that you THINK we MUST have. Just like the huge push for everything to be anitbacterial this and that....now we have more kids with asthma and allergies then ever before. The human body needs eposures to germs and the such to build NATURAL antibodies.

Not one person on here that has argued against the vaccines has stated that they thought the flu was a laughing matter or that they did not care about themselves. Proper diet, sleep, exercised and HAND WASHING and hands off of the face are all easy things that most of us who opt out of the vaccine do to help protect ourselves.

This is just like the huge push for the H1N1 vaccine...HYPE! Gotta get it....blah blah blah know more people that opted out then in.

Thank you for reminding people that it is flu season and vaccines are an option, but stop cramming YOUR SLANTED beliefs at us! Those of us that opted out again this year make that choice after weighing the pros and cons. By the way, the majority of people I know and work with that swear by those vaccines are sicker with something --maybe not the flu---but still stick way more then those of us that opt out.

The human body(by itself) does NOT build natural antibodies to stop the flu virus. If it did, older people would never get sick would they? Someone has sold you a bill of goods. Proper diet, sleep, exercise, and hand washing will not stop you from coming down with the flu. Do you for example touch things in stores like doors, products, and baskets? Do you each and every time sanitize your hands immediately? People nearby you in public who like yourself have not been inoculated are carriers. Do you wear a surgical mask when out in public? Lastly, the vaccine can not, will not give anyone the flu. Only the nasal version contains a weak live virus. I hope no one out there gets this years strain because it is very powerful and many people are dying and have already died.
