We are interested in hosting an exchange student or possibly two. We are open to any country, though we have an affinity for African cultures and also would love to learn Spanish. But seriously we love and welcome all cultures and enjoy meeting new people. We live in Orange County, Southern California near Disneyland, zoos, museums, not too far from LA. We are a fun family with children. We have 2 rooms available that we rarely use. Let us know if we can help! Thanks, Alida [email protected]

I live in Colorado and would like to host a couple of foreign exchange students. Is there any program wher the host family will be paid for the expenses of the student (like rent and meals)?

Nina, you can host a student on an F-1 visa, who might be either a college student or a student at a private high school, and be paid a stipend as a host family. Otherwise, the hosts in traditional exchange situations with J-1 visa students are volunteers (unpaid). It is actually in the State Department rules for exchange students and families that families are NOT paid. however there are some instances of organizations paying, but not sure how they're getting around the rule... Anyway, I can have someone in CO.(I'm in AZ) contact you about the private school program if you'd like! Let me know -- Natalie, [email protected]

You will be given support from EF Staff and a stipend of $115 per week per student
We are locking for people who like sharing our way of life with students from other cultures, have a spare room, live within 40 minutes from downtown, and can provide two meals a day, English conversation, and a warm, friendly environment for international students

EF does NOT pay its host families....
Here's a direct quote from their website:
Are host families paid?
Host families are not paid. According the United States Department of State, host families cannot receive financial gain from their participation in a student exchange program. This rule is designed to ensure that host families are participating in the program for the right reasons. However, in recognition of their role as citizen ambassadors, all host families are eligible to receive a charitable tax deduction on their tax return.

In addition, EF Foundation is the only high school exchange program to offer host families the opportunity for great discounts on exciting tours around the world through EF Education First's Educational Tours, Smithsonian Student Travel and Go Ahead Tours. Further, only EF Foundation offers a Host Family Perks program which gives host families access to more than 250,000 discounts and savings in their local communities, online and at the grocery store.
Don't mislead people.

My name is Michael LUTZ. Together with my wife Ulrike we are a happy family with 2 girls, Emily (11), Anne-Kathrin (14), our son Felix (16) and 3 cats living in a spacious home about 25km north of Regensburg (100km north of Munich), Bavaria, Germany.

Anne-Kathrin, who is visiting 9th grade in our local High School ("Gymnasium") named Johann-Michael-Fischer Gymnasium ( ), is very much interested to visit a foreign school for up to one school year since more than a year. Still today she is even more focussed to do so. Well, we love our daughter and working in the international automotive industry I know how important intercultural experience and languages are. We fully support her initiative and therefore searched the internet. We found several non profitable organizations who are organizing student exchange. After contacting most of them we definitely would prefer to find a family in USA ourselves who would also like to exchange their daughter/son. This seems to us to be the only guaranty to find a family who shares our concerns and expectations for our child.

Our idea is to find another family who would be interested to send their daughter/son to live with us in Germany. As the easiest option we could swap our children for up to a school year just having to arrange the flight. For all the rest it would be our pleasure to take care of over hear in Germany and vice versa. Our kids could do it parallel or one after the other. If there would not be a student to be exchanged to stay with us in Germany, I have no doubt that we find a way to compensate (monthly payment,...).

Anne-Kathrin would like to visit a school starting August/September 2013 (also January 2014 possible) ending June/July 2014. But a full school year would be preferred.

On our side we have confirmation from Anne-Kathrin's schools principle, Mrs. Dr. Beate PANZER (principle Johann-Michael-Fischer Gymnasium), who strongly supports exchange programs: the foreign student would become a regular student participating in regular classes and she will also accept Anne-Kathrin's grades from abroad. The student visa need to be applied for but is standard and no problem. We would also take care of health insurance and a liability insurance - just as we do have for our children.

How to find a family for student exchange seems to be the difficult part - but maybe you can help and know someone? Or your family?

After having contact with an interested family I could drive all necessary steps. We might also come to meet the family in person to get an even better impression as we would be willing to exchange the most valuable we can think of.

My wife and I, we do apologize for the additional efforts we are requesting from you to make this dream of our daughter to become true. But we have no doubts that it is worth while for our children and for an even better future.

Please don't hesitate to contact us (e-mail, phone) to ask and request whatever is important to you. It would be our pleasure to provide any information and security needed.

Thanks for taking your valuable time to consider our request.

Yours sincerely

Michael & Ulrike
