I was surprised when landing in town 6 years ago over the lack of any recycling going on at the time. I spoke to people active in the community about this. They always brought up the $ part and lack of immediate gain, lack of high profit potential.

Later, when the Power Shop started a program, I celebrated their foresight and grit. Now I learn they have been allowed to fail and stop their program. The local newspaper did not dig much and just referred to the money part of subject.

No matter how much money they actually 'made' day-to-day, keeping this stuff out of the landfills helps all of us into the future. In my little old-school opinion, which by the way was widely accepted back when I was being trained to work in/for a community, the town itself should make this a priority and help it happen.

There is way more to profits down the road for a town than focusing on only the quick 'n easy bucks today.
