Houses linger on the market

Full story: Silver City Sun-News

Joanne Foor had been trying to sell her home in Tyrone for nearly two years. Foor bought the home three years ago for $135,000, and spent an additional $28,000 in repairs and upgrades, including putting on a new roof, installing new carpeting, new ceramic tile floors, adding an additional room, having two patios cemented and putting a roof over ...

The market belongs to the buyer while the owner's property taxes continue to climb. The county makes an upside for themselves, while the property-owner only gets the downside. Where's OUR bailout? Quick, before we make our contribution to the unsold inventory pile!

Your best bet today, I believe, is to stay right where you are until the housing market improves. Sadly, many homeowners paid inflated prices to build new or buy an existing home, and now some will be lucky to garner a break-even sales price.

Don't let some Realtors con you in to pricing your home so high that it sits on the market for months before you are able to sell -- only after dropping your price several times while you wait for a buyer.

Many of us who enjoy living here would strongly disagree with your comment. It all depends on what you are looking for in the community where you want to live. Personally speaking, I find
Silver City a great place to call home. Most folks are friendly, the skies -- and the air -- are clear, and just as important, the weather is just about perfect.

If I want or need more shopping, medical, or cultural happenings, I'll either drive or fly to to the destination I want to go.

Country Boy writes "If I want or need more shopping, medical, or cultural happenings, I'll either drive or fly to the destination I want to go." Well that just about covers what we lack. I'd like to add to your list. Personal safety is important to me and while SC has laws & ordinances it has no enforcement. No animal, no code, no police enforcement. Yes, there are people in uniforms who half pretend to do this work (after all they accept payment for these jobs) but our town is not safe & I too would recommend anyone who is not a thief, drug dealer or criminal to look elsewhere for a safe place to live.

You should move on, and soon. No sense in being unhappy and disappointed with where you live. There is no guarantee of being safe in any community where you chose to live.

We used to visit Silver City a couple of times a year. It got too noisy, too run down. It's depressing and there are plenty of other fun places to go. We miss you... but you really need to CLEAN UP your town.

Don't you think it's ironical that those who moved to Silver City to get away from the corruption, drugs and general b.s. of the big city - moved right back into the corruption, drugs and general b.s. they left.

You are right Boy they should move on. The town has far too many people like you who whine and contradict those who see what a ugly joke the town is. It is because of people like you that Silver City will always be a haven for druggies, corruption, ignorance and intolerance for change.

Yes, for those of you who have come to realize what Silver City really is... move on and hope that you find a location that welcomes newcomers who want a better place to live and raise children.

It's almost laughable how you point the finger of blame on me and others who enjoy Silver City, when it is YOU who whines and complains about our community.

It's like I said earlier, there is no guarantee that you will be safe in any community that you may choose to call your home. As for corruption, you are going to find that it exists in most other communities, as well.

Quit your bitching and get involved in helping what you feel needs to be improved in Silver City.

Yeah right. Just try to get involved to make it a better place. You WILL BE SORRY. If the cops don't blow you off, the elected officials will say "Nothing I can do" People like Country Boy say "Leave" The cultural "elite" downtown wouldn't know a Matisse from a jar of mayonnaise. Oh this place is ill.

I agree with Country Boy. If you are unhappy living here, no one is stopping you from leaving. Pack you bags, load up your household furnishings, and hit the road, Jack!

Ignorance and apathy is the key to the corruption in Silver City. It is more than sad, sick or stupid that there are those who are so pitifully ignorant and apathetic that their only solution to the problem is “If you don’t like it leave”.
This is the USA, not Old Mexico where people are beheaded, tortured and gunned down. People like me and Madge want the USA to be a place where we can live and expect law enforcement and the powers that be to do their job for all the people.
I don’t have to move anywhere. I am an American. and can live anywhere in this country that I see fit. But you sir should consider Juarez or Palomas where you and your like minded buddies would certainly find it easy to get employment with the kind of law enforcement and dirty politics you continue to defend.

it's just like what was said earlier, get involved and get others to join you in making our community a better place to live. If you are not willing to put up, then shut up. Quit whining and do something about your concerns. It doesn't do any good to sit back and gripe if you are not willing to try to change what you believe is wrong.

You are the one who is apathetic and ignorant.

Bitching a lot does not make you less apathetic. Your problem is you would rather bitch, stick your head in the sand, and avoid getting involved with positive programs that would benefit our community.

Not only are you apathetic, you are PATHETIC! Get off your high horse before you get bucked off, cowgirl! You write like a girl, so I assume you must be one -- or a girly man!

Besides being a cop is Country Boy a homophobe? In Silver City where we celebrate our rainbow community, well I'm shocked.
