wake up prison officials. two murders in less than a year at the same prison. What will it take to stop this?? Maybe the local news channels investing as to what you are hiding or covering up. Still have not hear anything on the first death on Aug. 4, 2007. Another cover-up. And I guess the killer or killers are going free. Just think how that makes your prison and it record look. What a shame for the innocent families of the murder victims.

Guess you didn't read the Houston paper this week. Inmate was charged with 2nd Degree Murder for the death in August. "Coverup"? PLEASE! You watch way too much TV for your own good. In real life, crimes don't get solved, tried in court and the criminal put in prison in 60 minutes!

"And I guess the killer or killers are going free." The "killer" is locked up 24 hours a day 7 days a week!!! Where do you think he is going to go...the local cafe for breakfast???

It would do people like you a world of good to work inside a level 5 prison and see how things really work!!!

You go local girl. Not many people will speak up any more. You are correct in the last 2 statements. I retired form the DOC after 23 years of service. If more people would work at a level 5 institution for at least 6 months, they would have a very differnt view. I started at the old MSP in the early 80's, when things were a bit different than they are now. We experienced at least 10 acts of violence a day against staff and inmates alike. At which time all were handled with professionalism & courage.
Keep up the good work.

lillee, these people are convicted felons... it seems better to have them kill each other than someone else. I agree that it should not happen but damn... I'm sure it is being handled the best it can. If you tried to control hundreds or thousands of criminals you may understand how nearly impossible it can be.

And as for the "inncoent families"... they are parents, grandparents, and children of convicted felons! Maybe they should of thought of how it would feel to get the news of your son/daughters death while in prison when they were raising criminals. Think about it a little bit. Maybe they should have thought about being stabbed to death in prison when they commited crimes that got them there in the first place, regardless of how bad they were. Prison is prison, not a more simple way to put it.

To "former licking resident". I am the father of one of the inmates in this prison. And I thought every single day of raising my son in the best possible way I could have. We, the parents of many of these inmates did not let our children run riot, or wild, as you seem to think. We did as you, your parents, and millions of others have done, we did our best to guide and instruct our children in God, Country, and all things which we thought was nessessary for them to live succesfull, productive lives. Circumstances, for one reason or the other didn't allow our dreams for our children to be fullfilled as we had wished. Yes, We, the families of these inmates still love and care for them as much as you probably love and care for you family. And for you to make the statement "they should have thought about that" is hurtful and insulting. Of course we thought of it. That's why we worked so hard teaching them the right way to live. It's my belief that under certain circumstances, YOU, or someone YOU loved, could be in one of these inmates shoes. Please don't hate our children, If you feel a need to express, Please express it to God, and ask him to watch over them. You and I were able to make it through life without having to go through what these boys/men have endured. I don't want to end this note without mentioning the VICTIMS FAMILIES. We, the parents of the inmates live daily with guilt, remorse, and sorrow for the grief that our children have caused to the families of the victims. We constantly ask ourselves "what could I have done different?" Many of us would trade our lives to undo the pain of what our offspring have caused to our fellow human beings. When it's all said and done, it boils down to this, IT IS WHAT IT IS. Therefore all we can do is make the most of a bad situation. Please, If you will? Please pray for my son. Trust me, he's paying dearly. And yes, he deserves the right to live eat and breath without fear of having a knife rammed into his spine. That's all I have to say, other than to once again, say, I love my son with all of my heart and I always will. Dennis

I've seen it, Dennis. Good parenting does not always equal kids who make good choices. I have seen very good parents' hearts break over the things their children have done. Likewise, I have seen really, really good kids come out of filthy, violent, loveless homes that I wouldn't want my dog to live in.

I hope Former Licking Resident has his/her children raised and they are doing well. In my business I have found God does not give us any guarantees even if we follow His parenting directions--The Bible. There's that little thing called free will.

I'm sure we all have had our children make some decisions we wished they wouldn't.

Dennis, your son has been processed through the justice system for his choices and is paying his debt to society. Unfortunately, he is living daily with felons. I'm sure the rate of murder, violence, rape in a population of that type is high.

I pray for the victim, the family of victim...and for you and your son.

May God heal your family.

I would just like to say that former Licking resident made some very out of line comments. Do you realize some of the people in prison are there for writing bad checks??? I bet you or someone you know has been guilty of that crime. Prison may be prison, my dear, but every inmate has not been convicted of the same thing. And it is hardly the parent, grandparent, or family members' fault. Like Teacher said good people can come from bad families and bad people can come from good families. You are prejudiced against inmates which is a sad way to be. People you come across everyday could have been in prison or jail at some point in their life but you're not treating them any different because why ... they're not in a jump suit lol.
Just because a person is in prison does not make them any worse than some of the people that are not in jail ... maybe even your neighbor or yourself. The fact is there are people that are free that do things just as bad as some of the people in the prison system, they just have yet to be arrested or caught.
Also, I would like to add that the Corrections Officers work very HARD at their jobs. They do the best they can with the resources they have got. The inmates outnumber them by plenty and so they have to rely on policy, each other, and even the inmates for their system to run smoothly. There are situations on a daily basis against fellow inmates, officers, classification, nurses, etc. There are going to be some situations that are not going to be able to be stopped in time. It is sad, but true.
However, I do agree, that there are some problems with SCCC. You can ask just about anyone that has or does work there and I'm sure they will tell you that if they will be honest. But then again, what system does not have its faults. Especially in these times.
This is not written with the intent of defending all inmates that are incarcerated. There are some that make me sick; i.e. anyone that has harmed a child in any way.
I pray for you Dennis, your son, your family, the victim(s), and the victim's family. I cannot imagine the pain that you have to live with everyday for the absence of the son that you watched grow up. Former Licking Resident if you have children do you remember looking into their precious little infant faces thinking how perfect and sweet they were? Well I bet Dennis did the same thing. If you are a good parent then you will be honest and say my kid(s) have, are, or will make mistakes and I can only be there for them, teach them right with God in their lives, pray for them and for God to guide me, and try my best to catch them when they stumble. But sometimes its too late and the harm they have caused is irreversible.I do believe some do need to be behind bars, just as I believe some do not (falsely accused, etc), and I also believe that there are really good people that make some terrible mistakes.

I totally agree with you Dennis. The former licking resident wouldn't be judging if it were their child in prison. They have the audacity to say these children weren't raised right. How judgemental and hurtful.
OFFENDERS

Warrensburg, MO

#10 Feb 13, 2013
They are no longer called Offenders, but Offenders are human beings and should be treated so, as a human. But in the same turn you should not forget why they are incarcerated. Yes, there are bad check writers, individuals who committed fraud; and you know sometimes "desparate times lead to desparate measures," the human mind is hard to understand, some of us would not steal, rob rape, commit crimes against childre, and so on.

And we should not feel total compassion for most Offenders, and yes it is hard not to condemn the parents because there have been kids from all walks of life incarcerated. You can only do what you can do as a parent. But what about those who are still walking the streets that steal, drugs, write bad checks, etc., yea you pass by someone who isn't totally honest, and drink and drive what about those individuals. So, like the man said, pray for them all, don't judge because it could be your child and that is heart breaking.

A mistake is when you do something and you don't go back and do it again, so remember that also. You learn (suppose to) from your mistakes. And what about the awful things that happen in the prisons and the guards, either close their eyes or there isn't enough staff? Yea, when you close your eyes then who is the bad one? Your wearing the uniform and that doesn't make it any better, no one, not no one deserves to be raped, beaten or threatened into something they don't want to do. Ad Seg, that's a joke. So, to all those offenders pray for those who offended and paying for their crimes, and then pray for those who offend everyday while they are watching the offenders.

you must work there cause you workers like to tell how great and and well run that prison is, but the truth is it is a joke and so is the fact that the offenders choose to put there self there by raping and killing and ect.And the fact that the offenders are in control out there, and a level 5 thats a joke its just a baby sitting job out there. Pity them that they are locked up and by no means are they locked up 24 hours a day except behind a fence omg!!! What about the familys that have to live with knowing what happen to there mother, daughter, sister, brother and even there babys and ect., that they took away from and that don't have that family member to share life with anymore. How would you feel if it where you family or someone you love. You are a real piece of work to get on here and play that pitiful offender crap when it's really the familys they took away from that people like you must have a desire to hurt them even more and make it finale. You are so wrong and i feel sorry for you because you must not know what it means to have a family or you would not feel that way or there is something is relly wrong in your life.

The offenders and the workers now all they have to do is cry someone hurt my feelings and that someone "rather its the truth or not" gets punished for it how sad is that. And you all call that a level 5 prison that is such a joke. They need to let another warden from a real prison come in and teach your teacher how a prison is really ran, cause that was the life they choose to leave thier familys for and hurt and ruin the lives of the familys they took away from. I have you to know most of the offenders will tell you if they get out they would be back cause life is free in there. Wake up you people like i said yes they are to be treated as a human, but not same as be free in this prison cause they think treating them with kit gloves and giving them the authority to run it thier way is going to make them not want to come back maybe not at this one for sure but they will be back at another one ask them.
