These cameras have ceased to be for Public Safety & have become successful in creating revenue.

Show me the money babe!

It's New Age Hwy. Robbery. I'm telling you; the majority of the good guys are now bad; while the majority of the bad guys are actually good! I've learned very well to not even begin to judge a Book by the Cover.

Let's raise money at all costs. You have poor people, let's make them poorer. You have sick people, let's keep them sick. Let's treat the symptoms, not the root of the problem.
|
||||
That's what's happened. Speed Cameras, we pay for them with taxes & we pay for their ineffeciency in terms of safety, & we pay for them again if flashed, & pay again to an Attorney to plead our case, & pay for the Judge to decide if we pay again. Hmmm. Is it me, or do you see something terribly wrong with this picture? |

Just pay your fines FL. I vote that for every camera we deploy, we remove 4.2 cops. One camera should be able to cover 4 fulltime 40 hr shifts. Cameras only cost $100K per year. Cops are probably more expensive. You gotta take into account benefits, cars, guns, badges, and stuff like that + big fat salaries. I vote for cameras. Let's put cameras everywhere.

Knock on wood; I've not had any. I vote against these cameras. They are not for public safety & they are paid for by the public. Drag racing, activities that place the public in harm's way can be handled by Traffic Police. No bonus' for extra tickets; just do that job. And, as with all other Public Servants: distribute the pay fairly. It's a set up for failure the higher up the ladder, the more pay for less work.

Those sound like words of insanity FL my friend! We are the citizens and we should pay. Hehehe
Really, I'd like to figure out what the average cost for one cop is per year. That would be an interesting stat. Just googled it. Looks like $90 -$120K per year per police officer (benefits included). That's for 2080 hrs of human labor charges over the course of 1 yr. Maybe the cameras are a pretty good deal at $100K per camera/yr. These things can work 24 hrs/day, I think. That's 4.2 fulltime shifts over the course of 1 yr. If we do the simple #s, we should be able to cut the force by 3/4s. I'm thinking we could seriously put a dent in the expenses needed per dept. per city across the USA. Lower taxes. Not too bad. Let's do more with less. Of course, you wouldn't get the free benefit of harassment from the cameras. That part is free with humans. |

You do make a good point. Maybe, we could replace a large percentage of the Police with the cameras, & buy extra camera's to also watch the Police; & Politicians. Could save money in wrongful deaths, law suits & help with the back logs in terms of Court Hearings. I you just saved Tax Payers a small fortune with that idea; & enhanced Puplic Safety, To Boot! Give 'em The Boot!

Liking the idea already. It's simple mathematics my friend. I can see the benefits already. Like the cameras to watch the watchers too. Good stuff.
Let's move forward! Boot!!! |

My vote is getting rid of those cameras except in areas that have a high accident rate - that's where they could "help" the public instead us simply being more easy money for the City.

I'm thinking that getting rid of all these cameras is a must. You do the numbers and the probabilities are high that these things will get people for speeding.
Speeding itself is not dangerous, unless there is proven wreckless driving. As we all know, these things are designed to squeeze out every last penny from the everyday driver. If they are looking to increase revenue. I'd rather they just apply another tax with some lame excuse than to sit and lie about safety and how the cameras help. Boot! Boot! Give 'em the Boot! |

LOL. This is where I get really upset: those cameras keep flashing in areas where people are going to & from work. It's unjust. We don't need more taxes, we need to clean out the corruption. If the tax money was applied where it's suppose to be - I really think we have "plenty". It's kind of like that Child Fund that was collecting money but taking the lion's share in salaries as oppossed to feeding more children. The mega wealth & mega Athletes & mega Stars need to be taken out of fashion.(Looked down on instead of up to). Most of that success is getting accomplished by cheating. That in itself takes out any true & pure talent. But that my dear Boot; is a another issue!!!

OMG - today I was driving in a wealthy/wealthy area of town & amazed by two traffic lights within a quarter of a block from each other, coming out of the neighborhood. Next, was a Camera Van & heavy traffic police in the area to boot (pun intended). What's even funnier, this is a congested area of which most don't speed, so now they get to be tricked? They are going straight for the money!!! LOL - this is nuts.

They've decided to put up lights where lights are not needed and not to put lights where lights are needed (real safety threats).
I've been seeing these things near the areas where speed limits are changing. This is supposed to be against the rules. The cameras are not supposed to be on during rush hour. They are not supposed to be up or down hills. They are not supposed to be near speed transition areas. They are not supposed to be near ramps. They are not supposed to be in ares where they distract drivers from the road. I've seen everyone of these cases. Just pull your wallet out right now FL. Matter of fact, don't even pull your wallet out. At work, just do direct deposit of your entire check to the City of Tempe or wherever you may be. I can see it now. Did i tell you that I was at a light in Tucson and it was close to 5 pm. There were cars everywhere. An emergency vehicle was behind all the cars with the sirens on, but no one would run the light to get out of the way. The EV had to do some funky maneuvers, jump the sidewalk, drive through dirt to get around the cars. No one wanted to be caught crossing the light because of the cameras. It was quite funny to see. You know, I wonder what would happen if you had a flash on your vehicle and it went off at exactly the same time that the radar camera's flash goes off. No picture? |
||||
That's a great idea! LOL. It would be easier if everyone just did a direct deposit into the City's account - but then they would charge us a processing fee & eventually - interest. I'm surprised little gang bangers have not tagged those camera lens just for fun. |

Ohhh but they have. These stupid cameras suffer all kinds of attacks. People run into them intentionally. People shoot at them. Paint them. You name it, it's done. And of course, we the Taxpayers with infinitely deep pockets pay for a new one.
|
||||
Well @ least we're getting some good bang for our buck!!! |

No More Cameras.
1. They are not accurate. 2. They interfere with traffic flow. 3. They replace Traffic Cops who need their jobs. 4. They are legal hwy. robbery. 5. They clog and already clogged & flawed Court System: a) City Courts do not effectively communicate with DMV. DMV does effectively communicate with the insurance companies. Example: Person pays their ticket. Ct doesn't get it reported correctly to DMV - Insurance gets cancelled. Thus: harassing the very tax payer's who paid for this method under the 'guise of "Public Safety" ----. |
