Hawks Cay Resort: Where kids rule the pool in the Florida Keys

DON'T DO IT!
The designated kid's area is NOT walking distance from the rooms.
The rooms were nice--and in the Keys, that's something! But most of the activities they advertised weren't running (like the dive trips, kinda the whole reason we stayed at a resort vs. any hotel down there. A few of the other things we tried to sign up for also weren't running) and the adult's pool still had kids all over, running around, in and out of the hot tubs. The working hot tubs, anyway.
The on-site restaurant was good but in that area of the Keys, we were bored, bored, bored. You can only do the Dolphin Research Center for so long. And if you can play with the dolphins there, for cheaper, why do it at the resort?
So, verdict is, we stayed once. We haven't gone back no matter how many times they mail us weekend deals. I found a delightful little cabana called Pines and Palms Resort in Islamorada. Very charming, plenty of local restaurants. As a matter of fact, Morada Bay is on the beach and the best ceviche I've had in the Keys! Fabulous service and coconut sorbet to die for! And there's a dive shop every 20 feet so no worries about finding something to do anytime of day. I guarantee that my boy and our exchange student had more fun at the tarpon feeding at Robbie's Marina than we all had at Hawk's Cay.

I am sick of being p.c. when it comes to children. Why is it that everything has to be kid friendly? Why can't there be just ONE place where kids are not welcome. I mean I am an adult, and I love kids, but some times they need to be left home with a SITTER!

I agree wholeheartedly!
I am a former Key West resident as well as a father of two.
The Florida keys are not, nor should they be, a family destination.
There are many places to take kids on vacation. There are many places where adults can go on vacation. THEY DONT ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THE SAME PLACE!!!
Key West and the FL Keys are special because they are NOT a family destination. It is what makes it special. But now it is being ruined by families that insist on taking kids to places that are inappropriate. Fantasy Fest is a shadow of its former self. It just isnt "family-friendly", so instead of keeping it that way. more and more families are insisting on taking their kids there, and then complaining about the nudity, drunkeness etc. STAY HOME!!!

Well, Key West during Fantasy Fest is sure not "family-friendly" and people need to know that. Duval Street is not the place to take your kids. But, if you like to snorkle or fish there are plenty of ways to spend your days enjoying the Keys.

Also, my friend lives at Ocean Pointe, and they're very "family friendly". Giggling children are much more tolerable than drunk adults. Those people get kicked out of there pretty quickly.
