I believe God created us all..even homosexuals. The way I see it we are all human beings. We just tend to forget every now and then to treat each other with respect. So much energy goes into hatred, we might be able to help our fellow humans if we put our energy into something productive like helping the homeless, feeding the hungry and saving the children from abuse. Not sure how religion and politics came into play with homosexuality. No one asked me if I was straight or gay on the marriage license. I don't think being gay and allowing them to marry can harm the sanctity of marriage any more than we have..check the divorce rate. I don't think it has gone down.

Read the linked articles. The anti-Gay challenger lost the primary, so is out. This seat in the Iowa legislature will stay in opposition to any attempt to over turn marriage equality in the Hawkeye state.

In Texas, its called 'common law marriage'. if you live together, and call yourselves 'husband and wife', by God, your legally married. Sorry for Iowa, but maybe you should move to Texas. Plenty of space for more people. COME ON DOWN!!!!

what is with all the name calling ????? sounds like 2nd graders to me, first of all why do you care who gets married to whom gay people are not inviting you or anyone else to their wedding or into their lives for that matter so wtf does it matter to you people out there with nothing better to do than but into peoples lives. it's just like people who live together have no rights, none what so ever. a piece of legal paper stands between you and your personal rights, all americans should have the right to be with who they want as long as it does not hurt anyone so who are gay people hurting by wanting the same rights as all should have,,, the God I was brought up to serve loves everybody, there is only one God that I know of so back off and mind your own business. haters are not of God they are evil so the next time you go to hate someone for no reason ask yourself is it because they have personally done something to you or do you think you are better than the God who loves everyone or is it because it's what everyone else expects you to do ? I have a mind of my own I don't let anyone influence me one way or another, I live by if you are good to me I'm good to you, if you are disrespecting me then seee ya don't need ya, live life on your own terms not someone elses you will be alot happier it is that easy...

Young Iowan: Since when are our rights up for a vote? If that were the case, women and blacks wuold still be treated as second-class citizens.

Christian Order: Homosexuality is not an abomination to God. If it were, why would he create people that way? Furthermore, the obsession with homosexuality as a sin is a relatively recent development - it was not that way during the time of Christ, nor for many years afterward. If God hated gays, why didn't he mention it while Jesus lived? Heck, there's even very strong evidence that at least one of the apostles was gay!

Furthermore, the bible also says you have to lock up your wife (or any woman) for a week while they are menstruating. It also contains many tacit endorsements of slavery. If you do some basic research, you will see that the Bible has been edited many times over the years, changing passages and phrases for purely political purposes.

If it were only a religious beef that people had, I could see the confusion. There's nothing logical about homosexuality in general. Not biologically--scientifically OR morally. So why should we condone the symptoms of what amounts to little more than a personality disorder? Should we also then legislate for schizophrenics and others to make their uninstitutionalized lives seem more normal? I don't think so. They need to address the problems of their particular group and not make everyone else conform.(Press 1 for English.) I should never have had to process that MY gov't has taken it upon themselves to equate the confusion and perversion that is homosexuality with my marriage. Its sad.
FYI homosexuality is not considered a mental illness, get your facts straight it just makes you sound ignorant. Also, yes i do believe we should come up with a better system for schizophrenics and anyone else with a true mental illness than admitting them to a hospital, medicating them and then throwing them back out on the streets. Maybe, just maybe you should spend some time trying to learn some empathy for others. If there wasn't so much bigotry and ignorance in this country then there wouldn't even be the need for special legislation for issues like this. I don't understand why people cannot just live and let live. Its sad.

Bet you can't wait to put in in the gov's private! Too bad aids is a derivative of the gay mental illness. It is a choice not something one inherits and God did bless Sodam and Gommorrah - look where they are at today. Also there is a cure for aids, it is death.

When people begin to judge others for whatever the cause may be, is something the bible is completely against. For people who continue to judge others for who they are, or what they are is completely wrong. I want you people who are judging gay people in any way, to please pick up a bible and pray for forgiveness.YOU! Bible thumpers! Always quote from the bible but never actually read the few words you always seem to miss. God clearly states inside the real bible, "JUDGE NOT, LEST YE BE JUDGED!" This actual statement trumps any other crucifying statements the perfect people want to pull out of the bible.Remember God did not put you on this earth to judge other people. YOU ARE NOT GOD! THE FATHER, THE SON, OR anything else holy!!!!!! What other people do is none of your business. IT IS bewtween them and GOD! END OF STORY!

So Joe,are you just plain ignorant,or do you lie on purpose? AID's is NOT a gay disease! AID's is a terrible disease that crosses all segments of society and affects men, women and worst of all in my opinion children! World wide there are many more cases of AID's affecting straight people than gays! Gee,what does this do to your theory? Kind of makes you look like a fool doesn't it Joe? And AID's is NOT an automatic death sentence any longer with the advent of anti-virals which are now saving 100's of thousands of lives! Put it in the governments privates? What does that mean Joe? LOL, I think we all like to stick it to the government from time to time! Even YOU Joe! Being gay is not an illness Joe,being gay is innate it's just another variation of human sexuality that has been around since the dawn of man at about the percentages! Lets see what the medical experts have to say about being gay if it is indeed an illness or not! Excuse me if I listen to the experts instead of an ignorant bigot like you! Here are 2 links to explain the origin of AID's and what the APA has to say about homosexuals! Who knows, maybe you can even learn about the disease that you suffer from that IS listed by the APA!

It is not for man to judge what is right and what is wrong as far as human beings and what is stupidly considered a personality defect in being gay. Gay individuals are what they are, they are gay. It is not a choice that they make and trust me, I know this to be true because I am the PROUD MOTHER OF A GAY SON! I watched his struggles in trying to be what society deems to be normal and I have held him when some of you haters have voiced your first amendment right to free speech. But has he been allowed free speech? No. Has he been allowed to be who he truly is which is due him by the constitution of the US? NO He is a functioning member of society. He lives in a $300,000 home and pays taxes, he works everyday and treats everyone he encounters with respect. If you can't respect the gay lifestyle, respect the individual behind it. If you have not encounter what these dear people have encountered, you have no idea what it is they go through on a daily basis. They don't wake up one morning and say, "I think I will wear my brown shoes today, and oh, I think I will be gay!" How would anyone of you people feel if your child was being attacked on a daily basis because of his sexuality? Putting all this aside, I am his mother. I gave birth to him and I raised him. I didn't raise him to be gay, but that was the hand that we were dealt. If I don't have a problem with the way my son is why in the hades would anyone else?
Now that I have unloaded, I am asking if there is some law in Iowa that protects the rights of Gays/lesbians against verbal abuse in public? Please reply if you know of an avenue that can be taken. And forget the replies of a shrink and silliness such as that, we tried that route when he was younger, it can't be head shrunk away, you can't exercise the gay demons and it can't be surgically removed!

Its time to be realistic. These homosexuals were born to be this way. It is not known why this occurrs. Probably the mixing of chromosomes that something didnt get correctly made , and probably has to do with the hormone make up in the body. For the most part these people look, act, and hold themselves differently from non homosexuals. My guess is they dont want to be this way. I would not. But here is the important part. It does not benefit human genetics to have these people reproduce, if it is a genetic trait. Let these people live their lives. If Barney Frank wants to go home and have sex with his man , thats his problem. I dont want to see or hear from him about it. They need to keep it to themselves. As sick and perverted as it is, they have every right to be just as miserable or happy as the rest of us. They didnt choose to be this way

LOL, Your name is Straight as an Arrow! Too bad we can't say that about your thought process. Maybe reading these posts will help you think outside your small mental bigot box and see the bigger picture. I don't know any gay that is ashamed for being who they are; fearful about what others will do/think/say to them if they knew maybe... ashamed? I think not.

There is nothing wrong for gay people to be married. Maybe you people need to think about all the gay soldiers that have died in wars to protect your bigoted selves.
Shame on all of you that think it's okay for gay people to die for your country, and then deny them equal rights and justice under the laws of the land.
There are gay doctors that save your family members live, gay attorneys that represent you in your legal cases, gay firefighters, policemen, paramedics, doctors and nurses that are there to assist you when you need helping, and then you turn your backs on them over the word marriage that the heterosexual community has made a joke of in the first place.
Grow up people! Marriage for all those that wish to be married, gay or straight, you are entitled to equal rights.
The California Courts did the right thing in overturning the people's votes.
Just think about all the blacks that were freed from slavery and given equal rights along with the disabled that were treated unjustly by people and the courts had to grant them equal rights, and then there are the women of this country that as wel had to fight for equal rights and the right to vote.

Equal Justice for ALL people (gay and straight).
