ESU police officer is accused of illegally obtaining painkillers

July 25, 2009
An East Stroudsburg University police officer was charged Thursday with obtaining prescription painkillers for his own use.

Matthew Brill, 36, of East Stroudsburg obtained the drugs from March through June at eight pharmacies in the Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg areas, state Attorney General Tom Corbett said.

Nine doctors allegedly were used to obtain prescriptions for the drugs.

''Prescription strength pain relievers are powerful and highly addictive substances,'' Corbett said in a news release.''Just like illegal narcotics, these drugs can cause a normally responsible adult to do things seemingly out of character. However, addiction does not excuse someone of his or her crimes.''

Brill allegedly filled 40 prescriptions for large quantities of Tussionex, Azithromycin, Carisoprodol, Ultram, Vicodin, Avelox, Soma, Alprazolam, Vicroprofen and Lorazepam.

The illegal transactions allowed Brill to obtain 1,135 tablets and 1,240 milliliters of various drugs, and 459 tablets of noncontrolled substances, Corbett's office said.

Brill was arraigned on charges of acquiring possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation, possession of a controlled substance and violations of the Pharmacy Act. District Judge Thomas Shiffer released him on $5,000 bail.

Wow- we got a regular Sherlock Holmes on the message board! I'm pretty sure the kid is just half retarded like everyone else around here. You should call the DEA and ask if they are hiring for the East Stroudsburg task force.
