I have 2 daughters that go to school with Kayla Reed. I think it is an absolute shame and complete ignorance on the part of officials to treat any child that goes missing as JUST a runaway. Of course the police have no leads in this case! Anything they could have had or followed up on is now cold. This child is a good kid with no history of running away and attended school regularly. Going on what this child posted as a title on Myspace is absolutely crazy!! Personally I feel that officials didn't want to waste tax dollars or man power and now this child has been missing over a month!! I see a lawsuit in the near future and a well deserved one! I pray this young woman is found and found alive. Someone needs to get up and do something more than is being done!!! My thoughts and that of my family are with Kayla's parents and family.

When was it reported to the police? Why wasn't it put out sooner? This sounds like someone has dropped the ball.

I am Kayla's grandmother. Imagine my surprise driving to work Wednesday morning and learning of Kayla's disappearance. I called my son who couldn't believe it was his daughter as he had not been notified. When he called the police they told him they had no way of contacting him, per Kayla's mother she didn't know where he was. How can this be? He pays child support, and even has a court date in February regarding that issue? Friends and acquaintances who had lost contact with him over 20 years ago found him within an hour of hearing or reading the report. No efforts were made to find him, and valuable time may have been lost because one news article reports Kayla was missing for 2 days before it was reported to the police. We need better ways to deal with these issues.

Kayla was found floating in the Delta Mendota Canal on January 10th. The cause of death has not been determined, but murder is suspected. If anyone has any information, please contact the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department, the Livermore Police Department, or me, through this site.

someone needs to take a strong look at the mother. too many coincidences and a convenient "runaway" story. i've heard of the mother's background and for her to say she was worried about who her daughter associated with is like the pot calling the kettle black. let's hope the p.d. really researches her story and why if she was so concerned that her 15 year old was hanging with the wrong crowd did she go to bed thinking her daughter was dressed to leave at 12:30 in the morning??? just question the mother first and foremost.

And why did she wait two days? Who does that? Even if she thought she had run away, she's missing. It does not add up. No mother hangs around for two days before contacting the police about your 15 year old.

My prayers and thoughts are with you and your son. I only want to say that I hope that they solve this sooner than they did in reacting to a missing girl report. I know we do not know all of the details but I do know if any of my childern were missing the public would know about it one way or another in momments. And no family member would have to find out the way you did becouse they would be out looking with me.

Thank you very much ,,but Kayla's mother is not a REED her last name is SHEETS ,,Reed is her dad's last name . But the fact is,,Kayla's mother treated kayla like a DOG ,but yet kayla always managed a smile with those lovely blue eyes as if she didn't have a care in the world. I'm her uncle and I just want the truth to be told.... Ted.

Ted, I am so sorry about the misunderstanding of the qoute you read. I am very well aware that Kayla's mom is a "sheets" not a Reed. That is why I adressed it as Mrs. Reed to Kayla's grandma and her son is to Kayla's dad. I can't begin to imagine the feeling of finding out this information the way Kayla's grandma did. I really truly hope that answers start coming to light and an arrest is made in Kayla's Murder soon. Her beautiful smile is greatly missed on the campus. My sincerest apology for any ill feeling I caused you. Thank you for recognizing the beauty in this child. I think of it this way: Kayla is now resting her head on God's shoulder and will never be in pain again. God Bless your family and please accept my true condolences.

Is there any news about the search for Kayla's killer? I haven't heard anything about the case since the memorial service.

I was on the computer and read a story about Kayla. As it turns out, she was missing from my area, so many people(manly parents of teens) are putting together "search parties" to find out what happened to her. All I can say is that I hope they find out what happened soon!

Please check your information as it is incorrect! The mother did not wait to call police. She immediately called them and was told that they couldn't do anything for over 24 hours. They treat all missing kids as run ways at first.

Easy to judge isn't it. The mother who is far from perfect loved her daughter very much. Her heart is broken. She didn't do it. The police have looked closely and the mom didn't do it. There is a sick person out there that did do it.

FOR THE SOMEONE PARTY.

i think the cops should actually ATTEMPT searching for the dirty disgusting person who did this do such a wonderful girl.

i havent heard anything about anyone searching the any other suspects than her poor mom.

they have checked on her many times.

its obvious its not her.

so much for relying on cops on doing their jobs.
