I thought that DA Hartnett told us that there weren't any drug problems in Cortland. At least that's what he said when he was running against Suben. What are the chances that these guys will get a sweet plea deal from this DA's office and be on the streets in time for school to start to sell drugs to your kids?

There are so many dealers in Cortland, People who have families and live around us.. I have a young baby at home and am worried for the drug wars may involve him some day.. Common People Bust these guys.. What more do you need to investigate.. They talk about it at work, in the gorcery store. I know so many people involved in Hard drugs.. not cool. I hate being in onlooker knowing that my child someday could get killed because of other peoples addiction..

Cortland is a hell-hole. sorry cortland dwellers. I admittedly smoke marijuana on occasion, which has unfortunately exposed me to the seedy underbelly of Cortland. Oxycontin abuse is rampant, and for those of you out there that are unaware, this is a pharmaceutically prescribed pill that is on-par with heroin in terms of addictiveness, but is faaarrr more available to the youth of today. Cocaine and methamphetamines also rear their head in cortland but the "oxi" is the real concern.

You know,I have personally spoken to some of the officers here in town about the known or obvious crack houses and the problems with illegal guns, and was told "it's not that easy" as far as cracking down and making arrests on them. Try stealing a loaf of bread to feed your kids and see how easily YOU go to jail! Do your job! Even when people tip them off nothing gets done! The criminals have more rights than you!

we can continue to arrest the dealers and the drunk drivers but is this a permanant fix? the worlds drug problems will never end, but to possibly keep our youth from useing we may have to sit back and tackle this issue from a different angle. Children reaised with their parents gone all the time working 3 jobs to keep food on the table, parents who dont regularly tell their children they love them, children who live in constant critisizm instead of encouragment, whos really to blame here?

Shots gone off in the city on Elm street ak47, I think.the police did a wonderful job handling this situation! Cortland has gotten worse. Never thought I would live across the street from crack heads . Never though I would be woken to the sound of gun shots. I'm getting out of this town for sure, its sad.

The biggest problem in Cortland is that the police are friends w/ the drug dealers and a lot of the cops party w/ the drug dealers. The main drug dealers never get arrested and u always see them talking to the the cortland police. I could name off a ton of cops that do drugs and poeple who sell the drugs. (they even sell them to kids) Its sick, and the cortland police to nothing.

And to top it off, you hear their names on the scanners but never read about it in the paper. If they locked up the main druggies and did something about the problems then maybe cortland would not be such a shit hole and places would like to be here and give more jobs

The police are too busy going after the high-schoolers selling their grandma's Vicodin for $2/pill. I'm not saying that should be allowed, but it seems like they never get the big fish or go after the coke dealers. You walk into half the bars in the county and at least 3 dealers are sitting there looking at you to see if you're interested. On top of that, after they do make arrests of these little guys and gals, they send them to jail for 2 weeks so that they can make contact with some mildly bigger fish and when they come out, they have all the contacts and some useful tips on how to better sell some better products. Not all the police's problems, but the investigators and then mostly the courts for letting them off so easy usually. Besides, the police are too busy on Main st. asking all the college girls to flash them.

(just as a side note, I do know that there are SOME police in Cortland trying to make a difference, and I honestly thank them fully because they are few and many times, there's not a lot they can do)

Cortland is not a shit hole and maybe if more citizens would get involed we could get Cortland back to the wonderfull city it used to be. I agree that Cortland has a huge probem with drugs but I find it hard to believe that cops are part of these dealings. A question to PROBLEM, if you know the names of these cops who help the drug dealers why aren't you doing something about it? It takes months and months to investigate people who are dealing and then the police can not make a mistake when gathering evidence. If they do make a mistake the DA then has to cut a deal for a lesser charge. But if the citizens of our city would step up and help we could all make sure these dealers go away for along time. Then and only then will we show other dealers that Cortland is not the place to be doing business. So who is up for this challenge ? I know when I see something I call and I keep calling even if I don't think it will make a difference right at that moment. Someday my call will make a difference in this city. Start a neighborhood watch and push these dealers out of your neighborhood. If everyone did this we could concentrate the dealers to one area and make it easier for the police to do their job.
