Why should they be set free? They committed a crime and now let them pay. They just think they can do anything and not pay for it.

This is under the guise of civil rights? Beating an innocent person (black or white)? If that's the case, where was Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton when the Duke lacrosse players were being wrongly accused?

Why don't these two OLD media whores get it? Assault is assault no matter the color of the victim or perpetrator!!!

He ought to have plenty of $$$$ to post bail. I heard that David Bowie donated several thousand dollars to the families.

These people protesting need to get back to work. If they have taken their children from school, they should be investigated for contributing to the delinquency of a minor (truancy). Mychal Bell is a menace to society. He has four previous assualt related convictions. He had no right to beat someone over words. He will have trouble surviving in society if all he knows is violence. And to Sharpton and Jesse: GO HOME!

Go down to Jena and take a look at the rebel flags flying high...I've been there a few times in the past 10 years and you'd think it was still 1955.

I'd say Sharpton and his gang of fools will be lucky to get out of there alive...

If you guys were so concerned about justice then why aren't you clamoring to jail the white students who beat the lone black kid with a beer bottle. Or the kid who pulled the shotgun on the black kids who took it from him, but THEY were charged with theft. Why can't you guys just be fair and stop leaving out significant details. All black people want is justice for ALL. If the black kids should be charged with attempted murder for their beating then so should be white kids who beat the black kid or the shotgun wielding THUG!

Three cheers for Jena and the prosecutor. Tell the PC crowd to shut up. 6 on 1 physical violence is serious. Nooses and segregated trees do not justify that escalation.

I had a conversation with a coworker a while back regarding the Iraq war. This person resides in Texas and had the opinion that we freed the Iraqi people and they should be grateful. I told her it is not up to us to determine what's best for another country or culture. Her response to me was that the Iraqi people should be grateful because at least we aren't barbaric.

I reminded her about the lynchings in the south that were viewed as a form of entertainment. I also reminded her of the black man who was dragged down a southern road that resulted in his decapitation. I told her we have a past of babarism. Unfortunately, there are still young people who continue the destructive attitudes and behaviors of their ancestors.

When will we respect all human beings and not simply give people respect based on their ethnicity.

Say what you will about these individual cases, but nobody can go through the deep south and truly believe that racism is dead. How this applies to this case I don't know, but the fact remains that racism is still alive. The rebel flag isn't just a slap in the face to all blacks, but to all Americans who don't want the flag of an enemy nation flown on our grounds.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Just because this group is a minority group does not mean they get special treatment. Sure it was wrong to hang the nooses under the tree, but, the group of African Americans could have taken another course of action to address this, without resorting to physical violence.

Once again you leave out significant details to support your flawed position. There were several attacks in the months prior where black students were physically attacked and no white students were charged. Also a shotgun pulled on black students by a white kid. Stop manipulating and leaving out parts to justify locking these boys up when the white kids weren't even charged for their crimes. Where is all of you guys outrage over the white kids paying the price for their crimes? Aw, yeah well, I guess that's different.

The point of this whole matter is that Bell was tried as an ADULT when he was a MINOR. Plus he has been in jail since LAST DECEMBER. How is that right? If he were white and this happened, would you feel the same way ? The white kid went to a school function, doesn't sound like battery or 2nd degree murder attempt. At most Bell should be charge for a Hate Crime.

The incidents are mutually exclusive and unrelated. They need to be addressed that way.

No he wouldn't. The judge decreed NO BAIL and that's exactly what he meant. He isn't permitted to bail out.
