Utah Prison Receives High Health Care Rating: Are Inmates Getting Better Care?

FOX 13 reported on FOX 13 News at Nine that Utah prisons are now getting better health care than those who are not in prison and have health care plans.

A perfect NCCHC score indicates that the healthcare delivered in the prison is on par with the community standard and fulfills their constitutional rights according to the Supreme Court interpretation of the 8th Amendment. Our correctional system is not meant to be punitive as regards the health of the convicted. If society removes the ability of a citizen to seek healthcare independently, it has an obligation to provide that care to the level obtainable in the community. This score indicates that Utah is doing a good job on this regard. Kudos!

That is a B.S. story to rile us up. Especially because Obama is talking about getting his healthcare reform. I know the Utah State Prison Health care sucks as does Salt Lake Metro Jail. There are many not being treated ever or until to late for staph infections, hepatitis c, Dental problems,(which lead to other major health problems), etc. They absolutely want nothing to do wit Hepatitis C patients. Won't even allow commissary to even have Milk Thistle. Blood levels must be kept in check with Hep C or it can cause many physical and mental problems...and we all know how well Police or Correctional Officers deal with those.
