realize that even though these folks are making minimum wage that allows them to be eligible for free health care, food stamps, subsidized housing and many other federal "perks". So it is a livable wage when everything else if free. Enough to buy that new Cadillac:-)

is not questionable for those earning minimum wage. The government and charities subsidize food (food stamps and free and reduced breakfast and lunches for students), free education (since most of these folks fly under the radar and do not pay taxes), free healthcare (Medicaid), free or subsidized housing, clothes and other necessities not covered by food stamps almost free at thrift shops, Goodwill, etc., "scholarships" for free religion classes, Estes Valley Park and Rec activities and childcare...the list goes on.
Now if you raise the minimum wage to let's say $15.00/hr. for a thirty or forty hour work week that would do these folks more harm than good since they may not be eligible for their freebies. Or, you could pitch in if you feel that's the solution.
