Just classic - screw the residents who live along US36 and CO66 during the Winter instead of inconveniencing even one tourist during the warmer weather. This job should be happening after the last frost in the Spring. Typical kiss-the-a$$ on the tourist. Disgusting...

Typical mealy-mouthed bureaucrats - create an difficult situation, offer an untenable alternative, and then claim that any harm done by their actions (or inaction, as in 'no extra road maintenance') will be the fault of the driving public.

What possible difference would it make? US 34 would still be closed whenever the work is done.

Typical bureaucratic SNAFU. Its much easier to ask the public to go 10-20 miles out of their way than it is to close one lane at a time as they did on the bridge at the Cherry Company. As anyone who has tried to drive the switchbacks between Glenn Haven and EP knows, its next to impossible. Maybe the construction people who are doing this project, or better yet, the brilliant engineers and experts who tell us it has to be this way should be made to drive the Glen Haven route right after a heavy snow.LOL

Another traffic project that makes living in the mountains dangerous. My husband is on the Pinewood Fire Department ad they were "breifed" on the project as it will likely mean more accidents on 36 during the project period. More folks driving in our canyon.

If it were only as simple as working on one lane at a time as they did further down the canyon a while back. I wouldn't drive over those bridges if they tried. It would be like cutting the left half off a ladder and climbing it. It would collapse

The bridges that are being replaced are not the type that can be done one half at a time. They are steel trusses, in poor shape at that. They cannot disassemble one half and still maintain structural integrity on the other half. You're thinking of concrete girder or steel girder bridges, not trusses.

First accident that I heard of on the Glen Haven County Road route was yesterday, Feb. 09. I hear there was a SUV rolled and in a ditch. Still no plans for any extra maintenance attention paid to that road, though.

Congrats to SEMA and CDOT for finishing four days ahead of time.

What "extra maintenance" yesterday would have prevented that SUV from going off the road? What would you have blamed the accident on if 34 had not been closed? Sometimes, people run off the road and there's no "maintenance" that prevents it.
