I don't know what the intentions were for the 15 year old boy or the roseburg high school shooting this morning for bringing a gun to school but all i know and everyone else is that this needs to stop. Schools need to get down and detect why these students are doing this, and how earlier in school like in middle school, if there is any bulling the schools need to take this seriously and handle it in a manner so later on in the students lives it will have a less chance of students who bully or being bullied will have a less chance of thinking to do something like this.

I dont think putting blame on the school or telling them they need to do this do that. What I see is a fluke incident. Dont get me wrong my child was there I felt all the panic all the anger ect ect...The fact is the odds of this happening again or even of happening our less likely than you dieing every time yah climb in your automobile..

do not put the blame on the school. if someone wants to bring a gun to anywhere and shoot someone, they will find a way. look at sept 11. i believe there is a parenting issue, but i guess its not for me to judge

If you think this was a fluke you are so naive. This is just another one in a long string that keeps getting shorters. We all, as a nation, need to find out why our children are choosing to act out in this violent manner and STOP IT!! I don't want my son (or daughter, that isn't out of the question) to be the one to shoot someone else, nor
to be the one who is shot. I didn't know anyone going to this school, but I cried for both families anyway. They are both victims of this tragedy. If the victim was bullying the shooter to the point where the shooter felt he had no other options, why did the victim feel the need to be such a bully? Why did the shooter feel he had to do this; had he reported it and nothing was done or what?

My cousin goes to Roseburg High school and I'm just glad that he's safe. I don't know what these kids have against each other, and you can never stop this sort of thing from happening because it's another part of growing up in my opinion, all you can do is help them deal with their problems.

For the parents out there, if your really concerned about your own child doing something like this, you either don't know your kid that well enough to know ebtter that they wouldn't, or you need to have a serious disscussion about this. Communication is key to really stopping this.

I know us teenagers often lash out at you guys, the parents, and I can really explain why we do so int he first place. But a little pacitence and staying calm goes a long way for all of us.

Unfortunately, the school's attitude needs adjustment. Not long ago a student reported to the pricipal that he'd been threatened by a bully after he reported the bully for beating another student up. The principal's answer was: "Did that make you uncomfortable?"

The bully has a long list of offenses but the Glide ISD refuses to remove him. Could it be they will endanger the lives of the other students just to be able to collect the Daily Attendance monies from the state.

Parents, it is time we band together, take back our schools, and demand safety and justice for our children.

you are right schools suck and they should be held responsible in a way, they are with our kisd the most of the day, our kids should feel safe enough to report threats and something be done about it right away not when it's too late, these teachers need to call parents on both sides to let them know what is going on, so someone can protect the victim, in and out of school, both parents and schools need to protect our kids, take your kids serious when they feel scared, i believe every kid if afraid enough has potential to kill, so it's our job to be there any way to prevent, any cost.

I don't think it's anyone's fault. The kid was stupid to bring the gun to school. He should have known he'd be caught by some one who was smart enough to tell someone.

Well, we could do what the schools in Arkansas do. They have medal detectors at all entries, security guards at all entries, and they lock the children in during class. Is this what everyone wants? Surely we can come up with a solution without making our children feel that they are in prison, some already feel that they are not getting anything out of our schools. Maybe the answer lies in the community to keep a better viligant on what is going on around them and the courage to assist when they see someone asking, either in voice or action, for help.

i go to the school, and i know that the kid was being bullied, a kid was bullieing him and he just had enough!! I am not saying that that gives him the right to shoot someone, but, maybe the kid who bullied him should have stopped. Or his parents should have done something about it! The kid who was being bullied is a victim too.

I went to South Umqua High years ago in (Tri-City?) when I was 15.
They had a Halloween party and I was dressed cowboy but was going to bring a real gun to school minus the revolver part which comes out.
An older student talked some sence into me and I did not do it.
I was sooo stupid, it scares me to this day of what would have happened if I would have done it.

Shows how much faith a person has in S.P.D. Who knows what led to the situation? Bullys need to be stopped at the elementary level. Too bad we couldn't contract with Douglas County Sheriff.

Sutherlin High School rules are clear on bullys; both children are expelled even though only one may have been involved in the situation. I know, my son got into a disagreement with some other student who started the altercation and my son defended himself (kicked this punks ass)and both were given 3 day suspensions. Suthelin Police at its best are good for giving mips for tobacco.

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Cancer

No one can accuse you of being a wallflower today! The modern cowboy or cowgirl has a tendency to shoot from the lip and you won't be afraid to tell it like it is. Your response will be quick, and your timing near perfect. If you don't accomplish what you set out to do this morning by the end of the day, it won't be for lack of trying. Getting an 'A' for effort is sometimes better than facing the test.
