Prostitution sweep nets at least nine arrests in Lowell

Responding to concerns expressed this week by the City Council, police last night put a crimp in the prostitution that occurs in the vicinity of Jackson, Appleton and Middlesex streets.

Good job Lowell Police Dept.We have had a rash of recent shootings and stabbings in Lowell and as usual the coward LPD are too scared and intimidated of the gangs,so they have a prostitiution sting.I have an idea......why don't they go to where gang members congregate and try to arrest some for their ILLEGAL ASSAULT WEAPONS.
Oh no.The LPD would never do that,much too dangerous.They would rather bully and intimidate some guys picking up hookers,or pull over some harmless looking middle aged white person.It's much easier to bully them instead of a car full of gang members.

I feel so safe knowing that 9 dangerous,violent "Johns" have been removed from the streets of Lowell, and we have well armed thugs still cruising the streets. Gimme a break LPD, what a joke.

I gotta laugh because your post is somewhat true, but realize that it's all a chain of crime and all of these people (hookers, johns, drug dealers, gangbangers) play their role.
Example: the hookers are trying to support their drug habit, the johns are perverts who take advantage of the hookers addiction and give them the money to spend on drugs, which in turn goes to the drug dealers who supply the drugs. The drug dealers are at the top of a chain of a lucrative business, and they protect their business with assault weapons (also purchased with money from the drug trade, which may be the same money that the johns pay to the hookers). Circle of life.

The LPD also conducts stings sometimes to make arrests on prostitution, just like any other large city. Prostitution is not just hookers. They are disease passing junkies. There is some attention that needs to be paid to this crime. They usually pick up heroin, crack and it also deters hookers from working in Lowell.

I have been driving on Middlesex st, I never spot any prostitute. I like to walk on the street late afternoon with my friend. I hope they don't mistaken we are them. Oh, lord! There are so many school children walking to school and come back home. The lawforcement need to clean all the streets.

Yeah,the non-existent gang unit.A great job they're doing "targeting street weapons and gang activity" as you call it.I have'nt heard any news on the South Whipple St. shooting the other night.
15 shell casings 2 cars and house shot up along with one victim.What about the shooting on Cabot/Moody St. last week? Great job LPD gang unit.I'm sure those suspects legally paid for those guns.

You wanna see something funny...Call the LPD, tell them there are a few gang members hanging on the street corner.2 things will happen, either no cruiser will show up or 1 will drive by and tell them to move along.

Then call the LPD and tell them there are a few kids hanging out on a street corner with their skateboards.You know what will happen? 2 Cruisers and an unmarked cruiser will show up,there will be 6 cops there standing with their chests sticking out yelling at the kids.

The LPD = uniformed bullies.

You can't acuse people without proof. If the cop just do things based on what people say it cause uprisings. For example, if you call the cop and told what you mentioned above, the cop can arrest those kids only when they cause trouble.

The only way the cop can do is hide and wait and see.

It's funny. Think about this for a moment. If the women are on the streets giving it away it's OK. They can have a sign advertising free sex. But charge for it and you are arrested. Leagalize it regulate it and TAX it. That way the government will keep there hands out of my pocket a bit less. Tax the Johns by the inch. So the little guy will finally get a break.

Nice Job LPD. Thank you for responding to citizen complaints and addressing an issue as best you can. Maybe you can send the "johns" to Lowell4life's neighborhood and give him something else to complain about besides his very small view on how the world works and what a police officer does and does not do. We'll see what he thinks when he takes a moment to look away from his computer screen, pull back the shade and ask his mom for a cool aid. My thought is he will go back to his typing, pretending to think he has a clue of what really is happening outside in the world. Once again. thanks LPD!
