Plans cooking to reopen much-missed pizzeria in Dracut

Full story: Lowell Sun

Call it a seven-year itch. Since Tony & Ann's Pizza closed in North Chelmsford in 2002, rumors swirled that the family of the pizzeria's founders, Tony and Ann Privitera, would revive the business.

Can't wait. It will be alot closer to me than it was when it was in Chelmsford. I plan on being there as I'm sure alot of others are. Who said they can't bring the past back sometimes?

The Privitera family scouted several spots in recent years with plans to reopen, said Getman, but nothing worked out until now.
As much as i LOVE Tony & Anns,,, why don't you tell the truth,,why are you REALLY coming back? And in all towns,,Dracut??

Not quite sure what you are implying here. Why do YOU think we are coming back?

We have checked for locations in Chelmsford, Lowell, Billerica and Tewksbury. Methuen as well as Tyngsboro. There we a slew of factors in why certain spots did not work out for us. It just happened that in this latest round of attempts to open, we drove past this location. We liked the location. We liked what the site has to offer, and we moved forward with it.

Aside from the desire to open, we hear and see comments from the general public. This was in various public forums. Topix, From our own message board, which I had to shut down as well as a Facebook page w/ over 400 members. The majority of which is positive. This obviously had an impact on our plans to reopen. When you consider questions like have we been gone too long and similar items like that.

Our grandparents have a legacy that we would like to continue.

There still appears to be a strong demand for Tony and Ann's Pizza or anything that can come close (Lisa Pizza).

The timing is right. The location is right.

We just need to get approval from the planning board. 7.8.2009 @ 7:15.

Thank you.

Growing up in Chelmsford Tony & Ann's was the best by far and now maybe in Dracut works out fine because part of my family lives there. Heading up there next weekend; too bad it won't be there til fall.

Imagine our surprise in May when we heard it would take up to 4 months before we could do anything...

Once we get past the town meeting and we are (hopefully) approved, full steam ahead.

7.8.2009 around 7:15PM.

Thank you

I felt like I had won the lottery when I learned about this yesterday! Tony & Ann's played such a big part in our family's memories. I even have a picture of the original T & A's hanging in my kitchen. I shared this news with our kids and all we can talk about now is tasting our favorite pizza once again - we have missed it so much. Good luck to Tony's family and I'll have my fingers crossed for a positive outcome at the planning board meeting next week. I will absolutely be one of the first customers the day you open.

I'm starting to look for a home in the Broadway Rd. area of Dracut before prices skyrocket. When Tony and Ann Pizza opens I'm gonna die a glutton from eating their pizza.
I wonder if they'll call your number over the radio's AM station when your pizza is ready like they use to in 1958? I think it was 680 or 650 AM, not sure, it was long ago but the tast of the pie is still fresh in my mind. Now I truly understand the theory behind Pavlov's dog. Call the 1st pizza Pavlov's pizza.

P.S. Hope they make the frozen pizza so we can stock up in case of bad weather.

This is great news! I moved back to the area with my husband a few years ago and every time we drive by the old building I start craving a Tony & Ann's pizza. I'm sure the lines will be out the door!

Just what we need, ANOTHER gross pizza joint. Let's open a few more Dunkin Donuts too. Maybe we can set the record for the most Pizza and Donut shops per square mile!
