Full story: Lowell Sun 75
Less than a year since Tram Dang bought a quiet neighborhood bar and transformed it into a restaurant-pub and live-music night spot that drew neighbors' complaints, Thirsty's owner appears to be tapping out. Full Story

The town has never been business friendly. Most of our morning and evening traffic are cars passing through Tyngsboro to get to other towns to work.

I don't know all the facts but somesthing tells me that these people that live near this building knew when they moved there that there was an establishment of that type in their back yard.
Now that someone is actually making use of that space and I'm just guessing here, it's now no longer just the neigborhood towny bar any more, that people are getting upset.
There isnt very many bars in the greater Lowell area that havnt at least once been caught not checking IDs or had a fight outside their doors.
It seems to me like there was an effort made by the owner. It doesnt seem like there was much comprimise from the the town and the people that live near by.
It's to bad.

What a bunch of snot-nosed, sniveling elitist pukes.
The guy buys a tavern and tries to make it a decent place for people to enjoy and the buttinskis drive the poor sap out of business.
Typical Tyngsboro. A bunch of rotten bums, all of em.

Knowing that the neighbors are a whiny NIMBY bunch who won't be pleased no matter what you do, unless you turn the place into a library, who in their right mind would buy the place? It is just a guaranteed permanent headache, listening to neighbors complain, showing up at selectman's hearings, going to the ABCC for hearings. It will never stop. The same $600K could buy a hassle free business somewhere else.

I don't frequent that bar but it is really ashame that Tram's group (of investors) put so much into developing a Tyngsboro business, only to have every neighbor complain. Perhaps all those neighbors can buy the bar together, tear it down and make a nice quiet park out of it -- but then kids would be there and more noise. O well, they can always make it another parking lot!

I hope somebody buys it and turns it into an adult bookstore. That would be nice and quiet for ya Joe Paquette wouldn't it?

I live on Parham Rd, a distance away towards NH and I am thrilled she is selling. Now that she had done the renovations maybe a nice restaurant or something like that will move in.

You don't open a night club in a residential neighborhood no matter how stupid the town officials are in letting you. It is called personal responsibility and obviously she didn't have it and her lawyer who likes scum for clients is no better.

I heard there are a pair of guys from Laconia NH looking to buy the place, they're considering a motorcycle theme for the pub...should be interesting!

You have no idea what you are talking about. The "guy" is not a guy at all and there was no attempt to make it a decent place. It was a young woman who decided to buy a bar in an established neighborhood and turn it into a loud nightclub with blaring music late at night with snot-nosed irresponsible and immature kids drinking until they end up puking and pissing in the parking lot on the way out. When you work all day and come home and put your kids into bed and finally sit down to relax the last thing you should have to deal with is that kind of crap outside your window. Good riddance!!

Joe Paquette is a real hypocrite here. I have seen him numerous times at the Blue Moon inebrehiated and asking every stipper for sexual favors. One time I saw him and another man doing naked pencil dives off the Green Bridge.

The bar found itself in trouble because the bar broke several laws. Lets be clear, the bar owners did not run an establishment that meet Massachusetts State laws or Tyngsboro zoning laws. Simple. We can blame this on the people who live around the bar, we can blame it on Tyngsboro, we can blame it on the selectmen, we can blame it on the lawyers, we can blame it on the ... the fact is that the bar owners did not follow the law, got in trouble for it and now find themselves in the situation they are in. It is not that Tyngsboro is business unfriendly; they are a square peg trying to fit into a round hole and thought they could not follow the law to promote their own cause. It didn't happen their way and now they are leaving. That is their choice.

People live where they can afford to live and complaining about the bar has nothing to do with parenting. That said, many of the homes around the lake were summer cottages. The lake once had an amusment park and several bars. It was a fun place. Moving into a home near a bar is what I'd consider taking a big chance that you'd be happy there. Nick's Happy Hour on one side of the lake and Willowdale Spa on the other. Then there were some places on Tyngsboro Rd that are there now.

The fact is - if that establishment has been run responsibly - then it would have been okay. But it has not been run well and the owner is totally at fault. We have the same porpblem with the Souper Bowl on Middlesex St here in Lowell, There have been at least 2 riots this year, cars racing down the side streets in the middle of the night and more appearances to come before the Llicense Commission. Besides what fool advertises free drinks which anyone in their right mind should know is illegal .
