Doreen, There is a lot more open land in Chelmsford where you live. Put your money where your mouth is and get petition started and see if your neighbors would welcome tent cities that are a haven for drugs, prostitution, etc in Chelmsford. Are you for real?

The reason these people choose to stay in tents and not at the shelter is so they can use drugs and alcohol which they can't do at the shelters.

That idea sounds fine, Doreen. Volunteer your neighborhood for the tent city. Lowell is doing much more than Chelmsford to deal with the problem. We already shelter the homeless from the suburbs like Chelmsford, since no shelters exist there for the chronically homeless.

The largest percentage of these homeless bums red drug addicts and boozers who WILL NOT do anything about the problem that keeps them homeless. The unfortunates who lose jobs and homes due to the economic problems seem able to take advantage od the aid that is out there, The idiots in these squalid "tent cities" don't deseve a place to stay until they realize that they are their own problem. They can stay in a shelter if they put down the booze and dope, if not they can stay in the weeds. Most of them are so disgusting that their families threw them out, you want to bring them into the community the way they are, take them to your own back yard, Doreen.

Yeah Doreen Great Idea,

Chelmsford would be a great spot for a tent city, it is much more rural than Lowell, so it will be just like camping. Oh boy fun, fun. Especially seeing how a homeless man just shanked two men last sunday. I see know health or safety threat with these folks living in a lawless community together........as long as they are in your back yard.

Another bleeding heart liberal incapable of logical thought.

Can anyone get the word out to the "homeless" and let them know Chelmsford is open for business. Thanks Doreen for volunteering your neighborhood. P.S. Make sure you wear shoes when you go visit them so you don't step on a needle. Doreen, someone told me you married a prisoner serving a life sentence, is that true?

I can't believe the words that came out of this lady's mouth.....

"The city has some open land spaces; why not let them set up their tents there?"

Is she serious? Just picture it. You're driving home from work, the gym, supermarket, whatever. And along your way home you pass by 2 or 3 tent cities in wide open view.Empty booze bottles, needles, bums passed out, bums fighting over the last joint or beer.

All that should be great for all the new businesses the city is trying to get and the condos they are trying to sell.More prooof that people from Chelmsford,Westford, and Andover are clueless about reality.

It is more than providing beds for the homeless.Prime example, that homeless man that stabbed 2 people on Gorham st the other day for no reason.Doreen do you want to volunteer to keep people safe.So who is going to pay for this shelter you are talking about, it takes man power, eletricity, heat...etc.I agree let the Chelmsford tax payers foot the bill. Why should it always be Lowell ???

The man who stabbed the two people on Gorham Street's last known address was in Bedford, MA.

I can guess the scenario...Kid is a drug addict, parents can no longer deal with his destruction kick him out of their house, drug addict heard that there is "a lot to like about Lowell" including plenty of access to drugs, free healthcare at the hospitals, 3 meals a day at the shelter and according to Doreen the "right" to pitch a tent and squat wherever he pleases.

So, instead of wealthy Bedford's taxpayers footing the bill to support this lowlife, he took Doreen's advice and moved to Lowell to be supported on the back's of Lowell's taxpayers.

Yup, There is "A lot to like about Lowell!"

Hmmmm There are several ways to look at this ! Doreen, I have to side with you just a little here......I believe if the homeless where able to put there tents up and have an area where they would ALL most likely go, is not a bad idea, as long as it is monitored by police and or social workers, or someone ! Everyone is right on the aspect that they WILL do drug, drink and so on ........if people really think addicts of any kind let alone homeless can be changed...they have a big thing coming ! That is more hopeless than them getting a job or some place to live......the one thing they will NEVER EVER do is stop using !

I don't buy that for a second. The likely hood is down but, these people can rehabilitate their lives.
That is, if they want to.

Something I heard a while back is that the extremely wealthy and the extremely poor aren't too far off from each other in that they both have the mindset to as they please when they please.

Obviously those with money have more options readily available but, the analogy is that they don't have to care about how their actions affect others.

The rich buy themselves out of problems and the poor have little to begin with.

Both parties have nothing to lose for behaving the way they want.

As it is Lowell has one of the largest homeless shelters in the region, and over 25 programs in the city to help the homeless.Maybe it is time that some other town steps up to the plate. What was that,Chelmsford wants to put them in the center of there town,so they can all wander during stabbing people, leaving needles and empty liquor bottles and trash during the day.

Every town should have a homeless shelter to help there own citizen's. I have yet to understand why they do not. I get it on a the level of people do not want it in "their town", but Lowell should only accept the people of Lowell. Let Chelmsford help Chelmsford etc. Then maybe it wouldn't become so overwhelming and such a big problem for Lowell.(Isn't the shelter state funded? I dont think it is funded by the people of Lowell per say)

They need to go to drug counseling and AA meetings. There is plenty of free care for that stuff....not for a addict to park his disease ridden tent in the middle of city and poison the land and children that live in the neighborhood. People are so stupid.
Hmmm that is kind of funny ! Have you ever been in a homeless shelter ?? I have.....they are actually worse than the tents ! As for drug addicts and counceling and rehab..... I am very involved in NA Narcotics Anonymous, people start out wanting to help themselves, just fine, but most ....85% make if for the short term, but never the long term. Addiction of any kind is so sad to see, as a "normal" person you think they can just stop, but they can't ! Think of one thing you do everday you enjoy, simple thing, smoke, drink a certain soda, coffee..... how hard it is just go give up a simple thing !
