Now why wouldn't a reputable business like WCAP or Panos himself call the restaurant first to confirm the story? It would seem to me that if this sale isn't pending or even if it falls through I see a possible lawsuit. This rumor could cost this business thousands in lost business. Aren't times hard enough?

this place already is terrible in service with a bunch of drug hos waiting on you with smokers breath and the food tastes horrible. i have ordered at different times (no more) and the meat was bad each time. Terrible place to get food. The drinks, however, are great and most likely unlawful since they are way too strong and large.

I would be so happy to have a 99 in town! We need a good quality, medium priced restaurant run by people with a clue about customer service. We should lobby to have them come to town!

So did this on air broadcast take place before or after Teddy Panos reported on WCAP that former pro boxer Mickey Ward's mom had died when she was actually very much alive? Panos has been CAP's Top Dog now for at least the past decade and that radio station has always had the worst ratings, even among listeners in the Greater Lowell area. I guess that should be expected when the station's owner likes to go Cheap and hire all non-Journalists to do its radio shows.
Most reputable media outlets would've immediately fired Panos for pulling stupid stunts like these but since 'CAP really doesn't monitor its ratings (and Panos' salary is probably low enough with no prior radio training or experience), the owner probably just dismisses these screw-ups as, No Big Deal.
Finally whether you love or hate the food and service at either the Lo Kai or the 99 Restaurant is totally irrelevant to this particular issue. WCAP royally screwed up on its reporting the facts of this situation. Why shouldn't this type of Yellow Journalism be publicly called out and criticized whenever it takes place?

No where in this Lowell Sun article from almost seven years ago does it state that Teddy Panos himself owns and operates a restaurant within about five miles from the Lo Kai. Wouldn't that be construed as a,'conflict of interest'?
Why didn't the Lowell Sun disclose that rather important fact in this article? Although I didn't catch the actual broadcast back then, I would assume Mr. Panos failed to mention this blatant conflict either. Had Panos or the Sun disclosed the fact that Panos was a restaurant owner, it certainly would've downplayed the relevance of this story and painted Panos as being a jealous, incompetent little jerk who was afraid of a little competition -- especially when you're talking about buying gift certificates or renting function halls during the Christmas holiday season.
Yet another great reason on why WCAP owner Colonel Sam Poulten would be well-served to have actual Journalists, with radio broadcast training and experience, to do his station's programs rather than just business owners, politicians, and other assorted people off the street. It just goes to prove once again that going Cheap isn't always best.
One last question for Teddy Panos: Was the "reliable source" who told you that the supposed Lo Kai-99 restaurant transaction was "pretty much a done deal", the same individual who told you that Mickey Ward's mom had died? Somehow, I'll bet it was.

This station really blows. It should've pulled the plug years ago and spared itself from any further embarrassment. It can't even hold a candle to most local web blogs never mind something like the Lowell Sun. Good riddance WCAP.
