The humming sound is back! It sounds like a train or a ship's engine or a propeller...it's low frequency and makes my ears vibrate.

I've heard this in years past, but it's back again and it's very annoying.

I can hear the sound. Only been in the last few days but it like I'm in the room next to a generator and I hearing the vibrations if that makes sense. Anyone know what it is and why so many people from different places hear it.

It is happening here in Hudson MA in May 2014. I reported to the town officials who are looking into it. Comment was made that it could be a transformer. It does disturb sleep. Most likely it is due to the (electromagnetic) ELF waves, HAARP, program, GWEN, cell towers all contributing to this health issue which affects our sleep and other bodily diseases.

I live on Dartmouth St in North Chelmsford and have been hearing a low frequency hum off and on for a long time. It's been constant for the last week or so to the point where I'm unable to sleep.
In the past I've identified a similar sound as being caused by a diesel train idling on the tracks near my house. This noise seems to be similar but a different source (I don't see any trains).
Outside the noise is barely audible and it's difficult to pinpoint. In my house, where the walls mask the ambient noise of wind and traffic, the sound is much louder, and particularly loud in the basement. This doesn't seem to be related to anything in my house, as I've completely cut all power and the noise persists.
Ear plugs acyaully make it worse... anything that cuts out external sounds seems to amplify the noise. Not only can I hear it, I can actually feel the vibration somewhat on the back of my neck, similar to being near a powerful motor or speaker.
I have heard of a phenomena called "The Hum" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hum ) which sounds similar, but I think this is likely heavy machinery, industrial equipment, or some kind of transformer or power station. Low frequency sounds can carry a long way through the ground so I can't even guess how far away the source might be.
The sound is very disruptive, but so low-pitched that I suspect that other people may not hear it unless their houses amplify the effect. Fortunately I've had someone verify that they hear it too...
Does anyone of a way to identify the source of the sound? Or have you heard of similar complaints in the area? Who would I talk to about this... is there soemone in Town Hall I can file a complaint with?
Any thoughts or information on this would be greatly appreciated. It's actually to the point where I'm seriously considering renting or selling my house so I can get away from the noise.
Thanks.

...and speaking of that...with a 20 minute cycle, I'm curious if you have an aerobic septic system. Our pump motor that aereates the septic, cycles like that and does create a vibration in the earth by it.
Hey there Mike I hear the hymn down in Mimbres starts at sunset keeps hung through early dawn
It's likes car stereo bass beat at slow tempo barely a audible but annoyingly so that Turn on a fan to drown it
As a professional musician this hymn I only recently started to hear it
In bed I hear a low hummm but when I get up it's not heard
I lie down and bring my neck backward to stretch and it's more in theat positio

Humming woke me up about 3am here in Escondido. I've been aware of this for years but some nights are worse than others.

Out here for summer in NW ohio Wellington corn farm area and trains every hour! Each night in my bed I hear the hummm of waiting trains so after a fast one passes they start moving again but depending on the wind direction it's more pronounced seeming to come from up my bed posts thank goodness my cat purr is a bit more pleasant for me to hear

Hope to get back south soon

The Him is very loud in certain rooms of our home. Now I realize that it might be related to the natural gas pipeline that runs about half a mile from us. My husband can't hear it, but there are times when I can't sleep because of the constant drone. I've got little hope that anything will ever be done to fix the problem.

hello, Going insane in San Diego - where do you live? i live in Poway, CA 92131 and the humming noise is unbearable. im starting to wonder if this is from the sun rise powerlink transmission lines....it appears to be coming via the ground, not through the air. i dont hear it as much during the day but at night its loud.
I live in San Diego 92124 and have just started to be bothered by a low frequency hum in my house. I can also here the hum outside. It seems to be getting worse. My wife can hardly hear it but my son and girlfriend can hear it very clearly.

Very bad in Encinitas 92024. It is 450 am on a Sunday morning. I would say 20-35 hz low hum. Steady for hours. Outside as well.

Most locations fit your situation of being near (couple miles) high pressure natural gas pipelines. You may want to google on gas pipeline syndrome
