He surpassed his first birthday, celebrated a second, third and even fourth…not only shocking his doctors, but proving them wrong.
This little boy I am about to tell you about is Matthew. He was born with SMA, Spinal Muscular Atrophy a disease that affects the voluntary muscles used for crawling, walking, head/neck control and swallowing. SMA currently does not have a cure. So, how has he lived well past his bleak prognosis?
“I truly believe one of the reasons Matt has shocked all of his doctors is due to this diet.” Says one of Matthew’s biggest advocates; his mother Courtney.
He’s on a strict one…lead by his loving Mom who has perfected a combination of donor breast milk, vitamins, fresh fruits, and veggies all purchased at local farms and farm stands, yes, including yours. But getting the fresh ingredients isn’t always cost-friendly.
“…honestly, this gets very expensive and is something we may have to cut back on due to his other more pressing needs.”
Cutting back on this young boy’s diet is not an option for his survival. So, what are these precious ingredients you ask?
Here’s Matt's Farm Shopping List:
12 bunches of kale or spinach/month
4lbs pears or peaches/week
3lbs sweet potato/ week
4lbs carrots/month
4 bunches celery /month
2 dozen apples/month
2 dozen yellow potato/ month
3lbs cherries/month
“These veggies and fruits were specifically chosen for a benefit they provide.” Courtney explains that Matthew’s menu is tailor made, with blood work every six months to insure it’s optimal.
