If only we could get the judges to do there job, and keep the morons off the street he most likely had a new gun the next day.

Good God I hope they had other police officers on duty that night protecting the Evidence Room from the other cops? Perhaps a complete inventory audit is required by the Attorney General's Office before the statue of limitation 'AGAIN' expires.

I thought it was kind of strange that the "other" officers getting awards didn't get named. Afraid of the flack maybe?

It would have been nice to see the names of the other recipients, especially the non police officers. Why keep it a secret?

because they're only civilians...they're not heroes like us police officers who risk our lives daily sitting in our cruisers eating jelly donuts.

I'm going to guess you are more than likely sitting at a desk, with a computer, drinking coffee, and probably eating a donut.

Beyond that, they should have given out all the names of award recipients.

Congrats to all the hard working members of the Dracut Police. Especially Sgt. Jason George-medal of merit and Officer Jon Gosselin-officer of the year. Your hard work shows that the department is progressing and works hard for our community.

So, the Dracut PD is trying to get some much needed positive image building going; eh?. They are apparently hoping that the public will somehow forget the countless black marks on the PD as a whole.

But, an award ceremony for this bunch? That is going a tad bit too far; in my book. I might have looked the other way if they passed out homemade paper badges that said "Hero" on them; and maybe even gave the entire force pointed paper hats to wear for the day; and kazoos to blow. But, an award ceremony for these 8 Balls? Come on; enough is enough.

Congrats to the 4 civilians!

I always love to see praise being given whenever it is deserved. That is why I was so very disappointed when I read this story and Deputy Chartrand was not mentioned or recognized.

I strongly feel that an annual award should be given in Dracut for "Most Stupid Action by a Law Enforcement Officer".

Needless to say; no other officer would deserve this award than good Ol' Deputy Chartrand for his infamous blunder involving a shotgun.

To refresh the Reader's memories; Deputy Chartrand came dangerously close to being firded upon by his own officers; after he was observed rump stumbling and fart waddling down the street; in plain clothes; in the dark; with a shotgun upon his "woman like shoulders". The story goes that Chartrand was boozing it up at a local block party event; when he was approached regarding a woman being held by her shotgun wielding ex husband (or was he the ex boyfriend?). At any rate; Chartrand allegedly managed to stumble over to the altercation; which was already well under control; thanks to the efforts of a few brave and well doing bikers. Chartrand was apparently pushed; helped and dragged up the stairs, to the scene of the melee; where he took the secured firearm away from the scene; and then he swaggered up the road with it out in plain sight!

How can we possibly leave Chartrand out of the fun? Let's make sure that he get's the award that he deserves for his stupidity!
