Well, the Colisuem is back in the news with promises of a state of the art entertainment facility standing in the middle of a parking lot that won't hold the expected crowds, surrounded by congested traffic in the busiest area of Alexandria.
We'll be paying for this latest boondoggle for the next twenty years.
I only hope that the taxpayers will remember the promises and pipe dreams made by our politicians and media regarding its "guaranteed" success.
I predict that it'll sit vacant......a testament to crooked politicians and a gullible electorate.

Uh, Oh!
The Town Talk reports discrepancies in accounting at the Coliseum.
Wait'll the remodel is done and tens of millions of taxpayers' dollars have been thrown away.
Maybe we can get Jimbo Thiels, and the Police Jury to wrestle there in place of the WWL.
That oughta fill most of the seats.

Well, the people of Rapides Parish DID NOT want CowTown to materialize therefore they're stuck with the dilapidated old coliseum.

I told ya so!
Barron, Heinberg and Brocato along with the Rapides Police Jury sold the voters a "Pig in a Poke" when they passed the Coliseum tax.
The Town Talk reports today that what the architects designed, can't be built unless several million more dollars are spent.
I say, give the tax money back to those who paid it. If the Coliseum can't make money the way it is.....sell it.
I think The Town Talk owes us a list of those Police Jurors who proposed this debacle.

I did not vote for this tax, but my monthly house note went up. Now you tell me that the project is on hold because of cost over rides. Pull a Jessie Jackson and boycott Tunk's. Sorry Jimbo but you were the biggest supporter.

Again, today the Coliseum is in the news.
After convincing the taxpayers that $23,000,000+ in new taxes would make the coliseum a money making venue, turns out they were wrong.
But, not to worry. Juror Mcglothlin says he's gonna make it right and we're gonna like it.
(Like it or not)
I think the Police Jury got its estimates from the Obama Book of Economics.

I have four suggestions.
1. Have Barron, Heinberg & Brocato return all payments made to them for Coliseum design.
2. Hang a huge picture on the front of the coliseum depicting a design that'll rival the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. On the bottom, write "Coming Someday".
3. Return the tax money to those who paid it and just make promises of success to the public.
4. Tar and feather the Police Jury.

When will the people of Alexandria learn that when a project is supported by the Town Talk and the city council, you are buying a pig in a poke. How many of you that voted for the tax actually drove by the place and asked where will the people park that are going to this great coliseum to watch what. There is a new fire station being built that is taking up most of the area next to the National guard battalion. Now our glorious leaders are saying that they need more money. Now everyone you ask say's who me I didn't vote for that tax. WHO WHO WHO asked the wise old bird.

The Town Talk reports today that the Police Jury cancelled the Coliseum construction contract with Barron, Heinberg & Brocato, and awarded it to Alliance who promised they'll remodel nothing more than $23,000,000 worth of work to the project.
Thew Police Jury is stuttering and stammering on how to tell the public that what they voted for ain't what they're gonna get.
As the saying goes....they're putting lipstick on a pig.
I'm gonna wait and see just how gullible the taxpayers will remain as responsibility for this hot potato gets tossed around.
By the way, is Jimbo Thiels paying the National Guard for its work on his site for the Parish Fair on Hwy 71 South?

Lemme see if I understand this:
The Police Jury paid Barron, Heinberg & Brocato, the oldest architectural firm in Cenla, more than a half million dollars so far to design and estimate costs for the remodel to the coliseum.
According to today's Town Talk, the design will increase seating to 10,000 while providing 2500 parking spaces.
The parking math here is as flawed as BH&B's 20% error on their cost estimate.
Why are we paying for their mistake?

What's next?

Well, it must be an election year.
Suddenly the Police Jury is concerned about the $600,000 they gave to Barron, Heinberg & Brocato in a failed attempt to re-design the coliseum.
They're gonna sue.
Jury President says we have to hold BH&R accountable
.“I’m not about to waste taxpayers’ money if I didn’t think we had a good case,” Bishop said.
Say what??
How about we hold the Police Jury accountable for originating this folly.
$23 million in tax dollars to give the facility "more curb appeal"?
I'm still waiting for the promoters to assure us the $23 million will result in booking the so-called "big name acts".
Then too, they're gonna be $12 million short. Add a few hundred thousand in legal expenses to that.

Folks.....you've been duped....again.

This was just a bad idea from the start. The Coliseum is a joke and it would take at least 100 million to dump into a facility like that in order for it to be competitive. How about we build new downtown, that would've been smarter. Everyone knows there's literally no space out on Coliseum blvd for such an attraction, traffic flow, parking, etc.
