Prison inmates have now sued the county, its outside health-care contractor and others in federal court, alleging they contracted MRSA infections because of unsanitary conditions in the Easton lockup.

What the hell do these inmates expect for doing a crime, A 5 star hotel? If they do win the lawsuit, the money should go to the victims families or to helping the city they committed a crime in.

I've never heard of a fatal case of scabies, first of all.
Secondly, my dad had MRSA that he picked up at one of the big local hospitals--we didn't sue.
Another frivilous lawsuit that, unfortunately, these upstanding citizens just might win. I agree with Angry--the money should go to the victims.

So if people don't want to pick up nasty lil' germs in prison, there's a fairly easy way to avoid that - don't commit crimes! Or does that sound too much like common sense?

Not that I'm sticking up for inmates, but MRSA is highly contagious and can spread quickly. The infections should have been caught and treated, or prevented, because inmates DO get out of jail putting the general population at risk for more than re offending. The same with scabies, typically the Dept of Heath needs to be informed to of such outbreaks. Again what if an inmate goes home and spreads these diseases to his or her young children or elderly family members? MRSA can be fatal in vulnerable populations.

Stop off at Easton Hospital sometime, they always send you home with something you didn't want. Why should it be any different at Northampton Correctional.

who cares about inmates. One of them is having trouble seeing? Who CARES! Your a criminal in jail and NO ONE cares about you except your family and your CASH SUCKING lawyer. Your there for a reason you're a low life. Based on the spelling of the 'blinded' inmates first and last name I am sure he could find much better sanitary conditions in his native country. Can you believe tax dollars can get wasted like this?

By being in prison, these maggots are probably living in cleaner circumstances than what they came from. I'm sure they didnt care about THEIR VICTIMS, so why should we care about them?????

So, if a person shoplifts, then they deserve to die? Or have permanent damage? The prison system in America is not supposed to kill a person incarcerated for a crime less than murder. It must be nice to be so certain of your superiority to the "lowlifes" in prison. The racism and ignorance of most of the commentators on this board are laughable.

I agree with Mary. You are all entirely too ignorant to be commenting on something like this. For shame.

Just because someone is in jail does NOT mean that they deserve to contract a horrible disease. It didn't say what they did to end up in jail - you don't know that they committed violent crimes.

Mary & Tea are right. If you have ever had the Northampton County Prison tour you would know how bad it is. I worked the prison for only a short time and found it intollerable. These inmates are abused and the their very valid health complaints go unanswered and simply ignored. We all have rights and the inmates are abused in this facility, not to mention the filth in there. Clean it up warden. The nursing staff won't stay long enough anymore. We refuse to be subjected to MRSA and more. It's just pathetic in your prison system.

First of all some of these inmates had no victims sir, one fell on hard times since he lost his job to another country and could not pay a small fine. He will pay for that with a long term illness now. Perhaps you should educate yourself before hitting the comments button.

The money should go to the inmates who suffered at the hands of an overpopulated uncontrolled prison system with no empathy.......

I guess it's easy to forget that any one of us could land in jail on any given day.

Gotta love the 17th-century attitudes expressed here. So much for "rehabilitation," this nutjob thinks that a 5-year stint in the klink should come with a flesh-eating virus and who knows what else. Because nothing says "we take in criminals and return productive members of society!" like MRSA.

Anyone wonder why the recidivism rate is so high? Anyone want to venture a guess why our prison systems are overcrowded? Our "correctional" systems takes petty criminals and turns them into hardened criminals.

The only thing that would put me in jail, would be to accumulate a couple of grand of unpaid parking tickets. LOL I never even got 1.
There are some that don't belong there, like the ones that are be held for questioning or be wrongly accused. Other than that they all need to shut their mouths do their time and change their ways when they get out. And if you don't do the crime, then you won't have to worry about contacting a disease while beoing there. Suc it up chumps your guilty. No special treatments for you.
BTW there was probably one scum bag that had the disease when they came there and he /she was the one that spread it around. Yewwwwww

In response to Angry and Yourself:

Have you ever contracted an illness without it being your fault? If not, you should think twice about the words you speak. NOT EVERYONE IN PRISON IS GUILTY. The City of New York has impounded in the minds of citizens that EVERY INMATE IS A CRIMINAL! How many criminals sit with us and laugh in our face while we speak to them daily.

The majority of the SERIAL KILLERS, RAPISTS, PEDOPHILES, ETC. walk among us freely taking our children and we dare say that the unsanitary conditions of conjugal visits is OKAY because all prisoners have committed a crime.

Boy, I wish one of your family members were imprisoned for something they didn't do and were given life for being innocent while being charged as guilty. Ignorance goes a long way...it is just what you and Angry are...IGNORAMUSES!
